3rd Trimester

Advice?

I'm pretty young and haven't been around many pregnant women and I could really use advice!!

Re: Advice?

  • I wanted to know if there is anything that I should and shouldn't be doing right now (at 28 weeks) and the doctor I have don't tell me much about my pregnancy unless I ask and I don't know what to ask...
  • So, I guess I need advice on anything and everything anyone can give me on these next few months...

Don't drink alcohol or do drugs, eat enough protein, drink a TON of water, get some light exercise, get enough sleep, take your prenatals and read read read.
This. Go get yourself a copy of the Mayo Clinic pregnancy book or Your Pregnancy Week By Week, and read them. Read old board posts. Use the search box if you are looking for something specific. And then ask questions if you still have them. You'll find the boards much more helpful if you are looking for advice about specific questions (although once you start reading, you'll probably have a better idea of what to ask your doctor, and s/he is the best source for answers to questions about your pregnancy). Good luck.

  • You can start by reading a pregnancy book..

This, without an actual question we aren't really going to be able to start listing the ridiculous amount of things that are helpful/necessary to know. Also, some advice doesn't apply to everyone, you'll have to be more specific.

You could also ask your doctor about other resources for education. And being young has nothing to do with being pregnant, you still need to be responsible and put effort into informing yourself.

I agree with these ladies, this is the best place to start!

  • Please buy a pregnancy book. I am young too and have educated myself as much as I could. Being young isn't an excuse.

  • Ditto the PPs. Walk thee to the library and check out some pregnancy books. There is no excuse to not educate yourself and playing the young card is just ridiculous.

  • There is a parenting community center in my town.. Check around if there is anything like that near you. They have free parenting classes for all parents, they have a special teen parent program, run classes on things like disciplining children, the even have a small food pantry, give out baby clothes and gear like strollers etc to people in need.

Look up random things you're wondering about online.. And yes! Read some pregnancy, birthing, and parenting books.

    Best of luck to you
  • Wait. You're 28 weeks, over halfway through your pregnancy, and you're just now asking some people for advice?

Agreed with PP's - pick up some books. I haven't been inside of a thrift store that doesn't have at least one pregnancy book. Go to Half Price Books, get one used online. There are a variety of options.

I mean, you're in your third trimester, so I'm not really sure about what you could possibly want to know to avoid that you haven't at this point. Like others have said, don't drink (or quit if you haven't), don't smoke (or quit if you haven't), stay hydrated, I choose to stay away from certain foods like sushi and lunch meat (it's generally suggested, but some women don't), read up on labor and delivery...I'm not really sure what else to tell you.

  • What PP's have already said. And just use common sense.
  • You are 28 wks, pretty much safe. Eat well, drink lots of water, no cigarette smoking, alcohol, drugs... All the stuff you shouldn't do anyway. Good luck.
  • How the fluck does a person let themselves get more than halfway through their pregnancy without educating themselves in the slightest bit about what to expect/do while pregnant?  And please don't use the BS excuse of being young.  Young does not have to equal ignorant.
I'm going with MUD at this point.

This is a very vague question, but I'll try my best to help you out...

Eat properly - 4 serving of fruits and veggies per day and drink lots of water

Continue (if you are already) to take prenatal vitamins

Avoid high contact sports or anything that may harm baby (soccer, basketball, rollerskating)

Instead... try exercises like walking and swimming

    Avoid second-hand smoke

    Don't smoke and drink alcohol

Most importantly, contact your doctor if you have any questions! That's what they are there for!

I hear your MUD motion and second it.  All in favor, say aye.
