As soon as teeth appear, you should be using brushing the teeth with an infant toothbrush and water. There are infant tooth paste which do not have fluoride; fluoride tooth paste is not recommended until the age of two/when the child can take direction to spit out the excess paste.

I have a little plastic toothbrush that you put over your finger. I just brush his teeth with it every night. I was going to ask my pedi at the 9 month appt if a non flouride toothpaste is necessary right now, or just brushing them every night is sufficient.

My LO just has her 2 bottom teeth. Right now I'm just using a wet wash cloth to wipe her teeth/gums. But I will probably look for an infant toothbrush in the near future so she can get used to the idea of brushing. I didn't know there was infant toothpaste. I thought you were just supposed to use water until 2 years old.
