October 2012 Moms

Correlation =/= Causation

I saw this posted on my fb feed:

Study Shows Breastfeeding Decreases Child Abuse and Neglect “Significantly”

I fell like the title of this study is really misleading.  It's not like they studied moms who were like "I'm gonna abuse my child" and then had them breastfeed or FF to see which ones abuse less.  I don't think breastfeeding decreases child abuse, I think many times women who breastfeed are ones who put their child's need in front of their own, so as a population tend to abuse less.

What do you think?

    I'm not sure I'd say breastfeeding mothers are more likely to put the child's needs above their own, though.
    I know, but I just really couldn't think of another way to word it and get my point across.

    ETA: typing is hard, yo.  It's easier just to talk.
