Gluten Free mamas

I'm packing my hospital bag right now, and want to throw in some snacks. If history repeats itself, I'm going to be absolutely starving after this baby is born, but I can't think of anything to bring with me that doesn't sound gross to me right now.
I have nuts and dried fruit, but I get frustrated because I have to eat so much before I feel not-hungry anymore. I absolutely hate lara bars. I tried to find a chex mix recipe for the box of corn chex I have sitting around, but didn't see anything appealing. I know I'm being super picky, but does anyone have any ideas? When DD was born, I just ate non-GF granola bars since they were in the room already for DH (they had malt extract, which I don't react to, but I'd rather stay GF if possible).

Re: Gluten Free mamas

  • I took trail mix, fruit snacks, chips, cookies.. Apparently I like junk food. :)

  • I'm not much help. I have dried fruit and gluten free nut free protein bars. I'm resigned to my lack of choice non-refrigerable snack foods.

  • I'm going to grab some meat sticks and cheese out if the fridge on the way out the door. There's also these bars that are all nuts and dried fruit with little pieced of puffed rice in them. I wish I could remember the name, sorry I'm not so helpful! Also, maybe check out Pinterest to make some homemade GF power bar type things?

  • I am packing trail mix, oatmeal, candy bars for DH and I, granola bars from Costco that are gluten free and amazing, gf chocolate pretzels, and on the way out the door I have some muffins in the freezer I made that I will quickly throw in.

  • Lara vbars arent the only gf granola bar. Hit up costco and see what you can find for gf granola bars. Also dried fruit, granola cereal, trail mix, m&ms, and any other fruit that doesnt need refigerating

  • What about popcorn? That's a favorite for my mom who is gluten free.
  • Our hospital let us stick food in the snack fridge.  We didn't know about this ahead of time so DH ended up leaving and coming back with a sandwich for me. They also had a microwave available so I could have had a frozen meal.  I wanted to eat something substantial, not a snack!

  • I will be bringing kind bars, cheese sticks, loco coca bars, g free pretzels, nuts, and dried fruits. I'll probably throw some cold cuts in a freezer bag as well! Can't wait to have sliced turkey again!
  • My hubby found me some GoPicnic brand of boxed snacks/small meals that some are gluten free. The ready to eat meal varieties include hummus, tuna salad, turkey sticks, and other yummy things. If you google GoPicnic, it should come up with their website.
  • I packed dried fruit and beef/turkey jerky.
  • I just packed some dried fruit and nuts. I may throw in a chocolate bar of some description. My hospital has a really good selection of gf meals, so I just need something little to tide me over if its between meals.
  • Not sure where you live but fresh and easy stores carry a variety of GF snacks and have some yummy GF cookies as well

  • Thanks for the suggestions ladies!
I thought I checked the label on all the granola bars at Costco, and didn't find any. Does anyone know what brand they are? I haven't tried kind bars, but I just googled and they look way better than Lara bars. I'll stick some microwave popcorn in my bag too in case they have a microwave I can use.
