Sophie the Giraffe

Does anyone have a "Sophie the Giraffe"? We were given one as a gift and I noticed she has black marks on her "mane" and on the backs of her legs that I don't think are supposed to be there- but maybe this is an occurrence with the rubber manufacturing process. I emailed the company so we'll see what they say. Did anyone else notice this? Also, when I was googling trying to find out if this was the norm- I came across a bunch of stuff about a recall for carcinogens in the paint. GREAT. I've taken away Sophie until I have further answers.

    We have two Sophies and the only black they have is her eyes. I'm not sure about a recall though. Off to look that up....

    We have one and also only the eyes are black. No black marks anywhere else.

    We have an extra patch of rubber that is peeling off on ours. We are going to try to return it.

    We have one and it hasn't got any black anywhere apart from the eyes. My LO is one of the few that isn't really enamoured with it anyway but perhaps she will be one she's fully teething. . Until i know more about the paint i'll confiscate it anyway. Do update us if you find out anything more from the manufacturers about a recall.

    I've been contemplating getting LO a Sophie. I can't figure out why they are so darn expensive though! Will definitely hold off until I find out more about the recall.

    The only reason I can think of why they are so expensive is because they are made in France. That's the only thing I can come up with.

    My DD#1 LOVED Sophie once she started teething. It was a favorite of hers. 
    Sophie is especially nice for teething during molars- they can shove a leg in the bag of their mouth ;)

    DS just got one yesterday.  We've been working on grabbing and holding onto things, and this is perfect because of the thin neck & legs.  
    Welcomed our baby boy Henry on March 15, 2013 (7 weeks early!)

    We have 2 and no black other than the eyes... My girls really aren't into her yet though. They much prefer to eat their clothes :/

    We have a Sophie and my baby likes it but is still fairly young for it. I don't get when people say it's expensive because it's really no more than lunch for two at Panera or something and the baby uses it for a long time assuming they like it.

    DS1 loved sophie! Im sure it being a French toy doesnt help for the price. Look at the Mustela brand of baby hygiene, thats also a French line and on the spendy side. Im a firm believer tho on u get what u pay for!

    I think people say it's expensive because its a 20 dollar dog toy...
