Has anyone started looking at daycare/nanny-care?

DH's mom works at the hospital in our area and they have a daycare center. She said that the wait-time for the infant room is huge and they probably wouldn't be able to fit our LO in until about toddler-age.

This got DH and I thinking that we should start looking now for daycare/nanny-care ASAP and a pedi.

Have any of you who aren't going to be SAHM started your search? How are you feeling about the options you're finding?

  • Working in a daycare, infant slots are few and far between. I would look ASAP and sadly, expect to settle. Even a larger Childcare can usually only accommodate 12 infants per room, at least in NH. Remember to look up your state licensing rules and compare them to what you see when you tour. Good luck on your search!

  • We've got feelers out to all of our prospects in the area. I'm calling this week to set up visits hopefully for the afternoon after our A/S scan since H and I have the day off.

I was surprised about the prices I'm getting back from some places. We have a budget of $250/week planned for which our top choice fits right into. We're still visiting the DC's that are out of our budget just to see what they're charging so much for and if we need to rework the budget to accomodate.

  • Yes, found an in home daycare that we will probably go with. They are most prevalent in this area

  • I'm starting to really stress about this!!!! Calling this week to an in home babysitter that was recommended and a few daycares. So hard to fit in visits when my husband works so late.
  • I would prefer a daycare because my DH works out of the house (he's a sales rep and constantly traveling to customers and in conferences that he can't step away from). Last resort would be a nanny until a daycare opened up, but I don't even know where to start with that search.

Today marks my 5th visit to a child care facility in over a week. I was surprised at how much it costs a week ($200-$314).  I've been told that looking now is best because spaces fill quite quickly. There's a lot to think about and weigh upon. Hopefully, I narrow it down to 3 and then my SO and I will do a 2nd tour to make our final decision.

  • I already talked to the daycare DS is at, and they said to remind them again in the fall. I guess there isn't a wait list now, so they said it's too early to save a spot.

I'm probably going to call around to other places in town, but most probably have long wait lists. We have very few daycares in my town, so I'm just hoping the daycare we're at now does hold a spot for the baby. I think we'll pay about $160-$170/week.

Where do you live? The places around here are 350 or more a week. I want to move there.

Maybe this is because I am super paranoid about not getting into a good center but if they told me that I'd need to it writing so I wouldn't have to stab anyone come fall if they say they're full.

Ours is cheaper, but we have extremely low cost of living and by nest standard, our gross income makes us nestpoor

  • My DH and I started this past week. We decided not to do home daycare and go with the bigger chid care learning places. But we are in Minneapolis and the cheapest daycare we found for a full time week is 240. The most expensive we have seen is 350 a week and those are the bigger learning facilities. And those right now have a year waiting list, which is crazy. Maybe when baby is a toddler and the prices goes down take them there to the bigger learning centers cause they do learn a lot

We looked about a month ago at 3 different daycares. We liked all of them, but felt one of them fit a little better than the others. We put in an application and the fee and are now on the waiting list for March/April. It is $988 a month.

We just started looking at daycares and sending applications for the wait list about 2 weeks ago. We aren't sure if we are going to go that route bc they are difficult to get into and cost between $2,100 - $2,500 a month where we live, which we can't afford. Now we are going to start looking into nannies to see if that is Cheaper. If worst comes to worst my MIL will babysit, but I really don't want that bc she is so bossy, controlling and opinionated and I fear it will casue issues.
