Must lose weight

Ok so I tried losing weight over the summer but lost my motivation after about a month. I really want to try to the 30 day shred DVD but I also need to seriously work on my diet. I keep asking DH to do it with me but he won't agree. So for those that have done it on your own, how do you stay motivated when no one else around you is eating or living healthy? (Remember I live in the south and people don't tend to like to be healthy!).

  • It's really hard to do it on your own. I agree with BPaws, find someone you can talk to about it. It's so much easier to have someone you can kind of "report" to about eating and exercising. Maybe someone at school? I have done Weight watchers online and it really worked for me. I also love Skinnytaste for recipes. Even DH loves the stuff I make from her. And when eating out, I try to plan what I will have ahead of time so I can make sure to eat lighter the rest of the day.

    Good luck!

  • I was also going to mention skinnytaste. She has some delicious recipes.

Does your school do a biggest loser competition? Most of my schools do and it's a great support system for everyone trying to lose weight.

  • I use MFP too. If you want to and sign up we can share each others' food diaries. Knowing sometime is looking at it helps me!

  • Who cooks dinner?  If you do, tough cookies everyone eats healthy.  If it's your DH, eat smaller portions.  It's OK to enjoy your food!  You can best monitor your food intake during breakfast, lunch, and snack.  Meal replacement/protein shakes help me best.  I just tell myself that two meals will be a shake and that's that.  Also, park further from the door when you go shopping or walk during your lunch break (with your shake!) or before/after school.  We used to get a group of people to walk around the school and playground before school.

  • Thanks for the advice, maybe I can get one of the girls at school to join me. I know one girl's sister is getting married soon maybe she will want to lose some before the wedding. I will also check out those apps. Thanks again!

  • My dog is my motivation.  I have told myself for years that the dog needs to be walked at least 20 blocks (approximately a mile) twice a day.  Unless I am really run down, I walk him three times.  It's great motivation because regardless of how you feel, you'll walk the dog because he needs it.

Also, when I'm not nursing, I count calories.  As soon as I get back home (I'll have been gone almost a month on Tuesday when I return), I'll start up again.  I can't keep track here because I'm not making most things from scratch that are being eaten.  I like to use the USDA supertracker.  It's a good approximation if you don't have the exact nutritional information.

Just keep trying; you'll make it!
