Anyone else have a positive Strep B test?

I went to the Dr. today and was told that I had a positive Strep B test. They told me not to worry and that I will just get antibiotics during delivery, but I can't help but still be very worried....menigitis and pneumonia are two of the serious side effects in infants. Anyone else with this?

  • Have it too, the bacteria can come and go but they put you on antibiotics during labor just to be on the safe side. I'm not too concerned it seems to be pretty common, which is why they test for it.

  • I was positive! Probably the least of my concerns at this point! They'll treat in the hospital before delivery and let the pediatrician know so she can keep an eye on him. Never heard that meningitis or pneumonia are risk factors.... Don't fret about it!!!
  • This is my fourth baby and I have tested positive every time.  They give you antibiotics during labor and you are fine.  NBD!  If you needed to worry they would tell you to.

  • I have it too. I'm not stressed about it. I've had what most of you would call the easiest pregnancy ever so this is my biggest worry and the only complication. I'm pretty positive about that. Focus on the good and trust that your doctors know exactly what they're doing to keep you and baby safe.
  • My midwife explained that testing positive doesnt mean that you will even have it. Look up the symptoms. You probably don't have any of them. Maybe that will help calm your nerves :)
  • I tested positive my first pg and labor was too fast for antibiotics. Still no problems associated with strep b.
  • My adoptive daughters birth mom was positive and it was untreated bc she didn't know.  My DD was born at 28 weeks and brought back right after birth.  She also had blood poisoning. Even with ALL that carrying Strep B did not affect her she just needed antibiotics.  So A you are going to treat it and B even if not it doesn't mean disaster for your LO
