Anyone still NOT rolling over?

I feel like Greyson is so behind on this... but I know it's probably because I rarely put him down!  We do tummy time but always on my lap or chest.
He rolls up on his side often in his crib - but I still swaddle one arm so I kinda feel like I'm limiting him there too.  Am I a failure on this?  :\

On the bright side, he's babbling like no other!  He loves to play in his jumper thing and sits up really well, unsupported for up to 10 seconds at a time!

Ugh, I feel so guilty/worried about the not rolling over thing.  Please don't tell me we're the only ones.

Re: Anyone still NOT rolling over?

  • No rolling here. She went tummy to back a couple times a month ago, but hasn't done it since then. She is very strong in her core and can halfway sit up on her own, so I'm sure she will get to rolling eventually.

It's hard not to compare, but there really is a wide range of normal development. I was all worried that DS was behind on language, and then he suddenly just went through this explosion of new words and speaking in little sentences even. Kids go in spurts of development. Try not to worry too much at this stage!

  • My LO rolled over twice around 2 1/2 months and hasn't again since. She'll roll to her sides but that's about it. Don't worry about your LO "being behind".... there's such a huge range of who does what in the first year. Albert Einstein didn't talk until after he was 2. Maybe you're raising a baby genius? :-)

  • DD rolled 4 times a few days ago, and hasn't done it since. I'm not worried though... she will catch on when she is ready. Greyson will too. :) I also don't think you are really holding him back with the swaddling... DD does exactly the same thing (rolling on her side) and hasn't been swaddled since she was 2 weeks old.
  • Not mine. She hates being on her tummy. She does good on her back but only for about 10/15 minutes.
  • B rolls from her back to her side, but not all the way over yet. She's doing a lot of babbling too! It seems like she wants to talk so badly and that's where all her energy is going, rather than the physical stuff. Like Greyson, she's also doing really well with sitting. Our pediatrician said that it's actually early for them to be rolling completely over, so I'm not worried at all.

My guy has been ahead with all other milestones but no rolling B2T, he has been on his side a bit and even tries to tuck his legs and scoot when on his belly but no rolling back to tummy

  • No rolling here we r 4m2w
  • No rolling here either. She seems to have no interest in it these days. I have to push her on her side to get her started, but she still struggles with getting over her arm. Once she rolled from tummy to back but it was a fluke because she only did it that once. She has gotten better about being on her tummy, though. She'll stay there longer now, but I've been making her do tummy time almost daily.

  • Mine has rolled Belly to back 3 times all in one day and none since. Back to belly 2 times on another day but none since. I'm glad she's not the only one. We are also young for the board she was born end of April.
  • No rolling here either... She can roll side to to side but that's it. She seems to have to interest rolling S2B. I'm not worried. :)

  • Nope.  She's rolled like once, while on our bed (so a soft surface), and very, very slowly.  But not on a hard surface yet.

  • My little guy hates tummy time but likes laying on his play yard on his back. He rolls over from his back to his belly so I think he is doing well. He also is able to stand up with little assistance for 5-10 seconds and has been able to hold up his head since he was 2 months old. :-)
  • Just posted 3days ago there was no rolling but then this morning....voila! He rolled from tummy to back 4 times in a row. I thought the first one was a fluke so we tried again and again! Such a fun moment!

Ummmm goody gumdrops. Pretty sure that isn't what the OP was asking, but thanks for the progress report.

OP, don't worry... Rhys is just over four months and not rolling at all! He doesn't even really try to roll. He does try to sit up in his bathtub. I'm not worried... Yet!

  • Sarahbeth I'm glad your LO started rolling.

Today was his first day at the caregiver's house.  She told my husband he did great with tummy time and laid there watching her dogs play for a good while.  I find that so ironic because when I try to do tummy time he tolerates it for MAYBE 2 minutes then gets really pissed off.  She commented on how strong he was, holding his head up looking around almost the whole time - that she felt he was actually pretty advanced compared to other babies she's cared for.  Hopefully he'll start attempting soon?  LOL - he just doesn't care!
  • Around 8:30 last night, I watched LO on her baby monitor while she was struggling in her crib to roll over to her tummy, and eventually, with a lot of struggle, she did. It was the first time I've seen her roll over. Then she proceeded to cry. It made me laugh, actually! I think she was half asleep!
