OT: Migraines

Does anyone get migraines? What helps you when you have one? I've been getting them next to forever and would lock myself in a dark room all day/night because pain meds barely did anything. Well that's just not practical with a baby. I take ibprofen the second I feel one coming or think one is coming but I still get the head ache. There not as bad since having DS but its hard taking care of him all day with one. I get very nausea's too when I have one so if he poops I'm running right to the toilet. Any and all suggestions are welcome! Thanks

  • I get visual auras before the headache comes. I get this thing in my eye where I stared too close to the sun. If I can get three advil & a coke, I'm usually okay. I won't get the really bad headache or nausea, just the hangover headache.

  • It's been awhile since I have had one but I used to get bad ones all the time. The best thing for me was prevention and stopping the triggers. If I was really sleep deprived I would definitely get one, so lots of sleep (I know hard with a kid!), red wine, and having the sun glare on me in a car were all my triggers. I agree with pp's who mentioned ibuprofen with caffeine. The caffeine will help constrict the blood vessels so it takes away your headache. Also, turn off all bright lights and cold rag if needed.

  • Caffeine and sunglasses help me. I also take imitrex, a prescription medication. It's safe for BF and a world better for my stomach than the 4 ibprophen I'd take if it wasn't available. I get nausea, too.

Oh, and if DH is around, he gives me shoulder and neck rubs that help. I think that nerves can only carry so many messages, so the touch of the massage helps distract from the pain.

This is very similar to what happens to me. Ditto the Advil and coke approach.
