So we had DD 15 month check up today and she is in the 97th percentile for weight (or 27.5 lbs). She is tall too 90th percentile. My question is has anyone had a child that high on the chart level out? I know I am crazy and she is only 15 months old, but people are starting to make comments and it is starting to make me feel judged. I know she is healthy and happy and eats healthy so I should stop worrying.
Sorry if this doesn't make much sense.
Re: Toddler weight percentiles
Thanks for the reminder that it isn't bad to be 97th.
I bet she will even out by the next visit.
Are you or your husband (or other close family) tall?
Do you have diabetes or obesity in your family history?
And hey, someone has to be at the top of the charts after all
I wouldn't worry about it. This is a case of babies do what babies do. I'd be more worried if they weren't proportionate but it seems like they are.
I have a couple nephews were born at the top of the chart and were over the chart at age 2 (with two perfectly avg. all around parents) They're now 4 and 2 and right back on average. It all levels eventually.
And if it makes you feel better, my own kid is 50% all around and people make comments all the time about how "solid" she is or how "tall" she is or they even tell me she's "chubby." And then the next person says, "Does she eat good? I think she needs more!"
LOL. I can't win either way. She's entirely normal people!
Thank you for the responses. Hopefully now that she is mobile and loves being outside that it will level off.
Thanks everyone!
You mention having family members who are obese--why? Is it because they have medical conditions that cause obesity or is it because of poor food choices/limited exercise? If its the latter I wouldn't be concerned that your child will be overweight because she's going to learn most by watching the people she lives with everyday.
continue to offer healthy foods, let her be active and play, think of a snappy comeback for the worst of the bigmouths, and try to ignore the rest. i wish i had one for you!
