Hello friends! I found this article and thought you all may find it interesting, considering how many of us are married but not living in states with full marriage equality:
It doesn't give us answers yet but it poses all the questions I know I have in regards to how DOMA will impact me if DP and I got married in Iowa. We haven't done it yet because we don't see a point if it's not going to impact our finances and/or health insurance, but it may in the future. In any case, we have our application printed out and we'll tie the knot if it's going to help us.
The happiest news in all this: nation-wide same sex marriage will probably happen within the next few years. Look at the logistical nightmares this is causing because some states recognize SSM and others don't. This type of arrangement is not sustainable. All the states are going to have to relent eventually. We all know the clock won't go backwards (yay!) so the only solution to get rid of these pesky scenarios is just to make marriage equality legal across the nation. One sweet day until then, hang tight! They'll give us answers soon.
