How much does your toddler eat at daycare?

I packed cut up grilled chicken pasta and cut up vegetables that fit in to a 4 ounce container. DD came home with 3 ounces left of food. I know they feed her snacks, however I would think she would eat more than that for lunch. How much do your kids eat at daycare? DD is 13 months old.

  • That seems a little low but not shocking - is she teething? My DD never eats as much when she is getting a tooth. Or maybe she was tired and just wanted to get to nap time. I wouldn't worry about it unless there seems to be a trend and/or a real disparity between what she eats at home and what she eats at daycare.

  • It varies by day. Some days LO eats everything in sight, and some days LO doesn't seem to eat anything at all. I try not to worry unless it's multiple days in a row LO doesn't eat.
  • Crackers and juice. That's it. But he is never hungry so we knew that would happen.

  • I send the same amount and type of food I think she usually eats most of it. She does not drink milk due to dairy intolerance, so all her calories are from food except for a few ounces of formula in the morning.

  • Couldn't tell you!  Our daycare serves breakfast, lunch, and a snack (all pretty healthy offerings).  I've never inquired about how much he eats, and I figure his teachers would tell me if he was extremely different than the 7 other toddlers in his room.  He's healthy for height and weight, so I don't worry about it.  Also, some days he hardly eats any dinner at home, which makes me assume that he ate a good amount at daycare.

  • We don't get exact amounts since she eats their food. We get "everything" "most of it", etc. I think only a few times has it not been everything. She's a machine when it comes to eating. But I will say that when she is teething she tends to eat less of certain things.

  • Our DC provides the food, they write down how much is given to DS but I don't know how much gets eaten vs. thrown onto the floor. Since DS is low on weight, I feed him breakfast at home (at 6:30) and give him a big snack when I pick him up.

This exactly for my DS too.

  • It seems light, but do you know how much is given for snack?

My littlest is 11 months old and I send him with a main course and a side every day, like pasta and veggies with fruit and yogurt. He never comes home with any leftovers... but he is a BIG eater :o)

  • My kids are food motivated and generally eat everything in sight. I agree i3oz seems light. I would inquire abt snacks. How much does LO eat at home? DC is stimulating so maybe the focus is on the surroundings other than food. As long as LO is growing I wouldn't worry too much.
