Thoughts on our Girl Name...

I posted this on the Baby Name Board but I'd like some feed back from my December ladies too!

Looking for thoughts on the girl name "Holland Marjorie"?

Holland is a name I came across and like & Marjorie was my Nana's name.
This is Baby #3 and we normally do a liked yet different first name & a family sentimental middle name..
Siblings are Ashton William & Sydney Louise

Re: Thoughts on our Girl Name...

  • Honestly, I think the middle name is sweet...but Holland is NMS.

  • I don't mind the name, although knowing all three names kind of makes me wonder why they are all names of cities?  Was that on purpose?

I love Holland and would've considered it if this one was a girl! And I like family names for the MN.
  • How about Marjorie Holland? Think long term for your child. She might run for president or become a CEO for a huge company one day and sadly so discrimination still exists.

i didn't know Ashton was a city, or didn't make that correlation right away. Sidney, yes.

I don't mind Holland. It's nms, but I don't think it's a bad name. I really dislike the name marjorie, but again, nms. I think you're reasons for using it are great.

  • I also like  Marjorie Holland, Or you could call her Holly if you choose Holland as her first name? I do like how unique the first and middle are.
    Welcome Lily Anna!

  • I have a friend named Holland, but we call her Holly.  Are you ok with Holly as the shortened name?
  • It is NMS either but I think it goes nicely with her siblings names. I would second previous posters who asked if you minded the nickname Holly? Especially with a December birthday.

  • I feel like she'll always be called Holly, and that I like. Holland as the full name I'm not a fan of, but I do like that its different and I don't know and Holland's. at the end of the day, your baby, your choice :-)

  • I like personally like Holland. It was on my list but we didn't want her called holly so it got crossed out.

I actually didn't know Ashton was a name of a city until I read your comment and googled it! Good to know, but in all honesty I don't mind having city named children. My husband was the one that chose Ashton from a book, and I heard the name and loved it too. My daughter Sydney was named from the movie I Love You Man, one of the characters was named Sydney Fife, we heard the name & looked at each other and knew she would be a Sydney! Holland I came across looking at nursery decor on Pinterest, it was displayed handing from a willow tree branch.. I just love it...

I do need to think more about the nickname Holly, I would prefer it just be Holland and I don't see people calling her a nickname we don't use...
Although a friend said the first nickname that came to mind for her was Holla or LaLa? Hmmm
My son prefers to be called Ashton, in fact his daycare provider called him Ash once & he turned around and said "Actually my mom named me Ashton, So that's what I go by" haha it was hilarious because first of all he's 4 so it was just funny but also because I call him Ash all the time...
Now the reference to Holly in December.. I didn't think of (oddly enough)
  • Holland is nms but it's a fine name. Much better than some of the messes I've heard lately. It makes me think of Holland Taylor, the actress who plays the mom on Two and a Half Men. And I love family names for middle names. I wish we had a good one for our little girl.

  • It doesn't flow to me. I am indifferent to the actual names, but they don't go together for me.
  • I kinda like it. It is different. NN Holly?

  • Love love love Holland. It's DD middle name. My family is Dutch, which is why we used it. I'm sure she'll be called Holly for short.

  • I don't hate it, but it doesn't have a good flow as PP's have said. Although I do think Marjorie Holland sounds better if you are set on those 2 names.

  • I don't mind the name Holland, but if I knew someone with that name I would constantly be calling them Holland Oates. image
Maybe it's just me.  I doubt many kids on the playground are big Hall and Oates fans these days.

Haha I had no idea what you were talking about... had to google them. So that's not a big worry to me! I figure if kids really want to be mean lil sh*ts they can make fun of anyones name no matter how classic it may be... I'll teach my child how to disregard and surpass people like that. I have a simple all American name, Jenna, kids made fun of me for being "too dark skinned" to pull it off... haha really people!
