How much sleep are you personally getting?

With all of the discussion of the various challenges/philosophies regarding sleep...I was wondering how much sleep we're all actually getting. I'm in the second category most of the time....

8 hours/night or more. I feel refreshed and energetic!

Between 6 to 8 hours/night. It would be nice to sleep in on occasion, but in general I'm doing okay.

Between 4 and 6 hours/night. OMG, I'm freaking tired.

Less than 4 hours per night. I'm barely functional and would sell my child for a nap :).

I voted 6-8. But it's definitely broken sleep. It could (and has been) worse and I'm SAH (at least part time) right now so that makes it more bearable. But boy do I miss 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep.

  • 6-8.  Just enough to eek by.  I'm tired, but not exhausted.  I feel like I've been perpetually tired since having kids.  It's just something about never sleeping to your heart's content, you know?  Things can, and have, been far worse though.  Both kids actually slept til nearly 8am the past 2 days.  I'll happily take that!

If I would give up some of my free time after the kids are asleep I know I could sleep and recharge more, but that time is more important to me awake.  Trade offs.

This is me, too.  I get so much done at night (i.e., reading) before she wakes up hungry!  It's really hard to give up.

  • I voted between 4-6 but that's my fault. DD sleeps, well usually sleeps all night, but I stay awake till midnight or 1am.

  • I am in the 6-8 camp but am sleeping enough. I'd love to have a little more but that is because I get up earlier than I would like for work nothing to do with the baby.

  • I get about 5-6 hours. I teach evening courses twice a week and do not get home until 10:30pm, then I have to eat, pump, and take some time to calm myself down and by that time, DS wakes for his first feeding.  On the other nights I try to get to bed earlier but sometimes it just doesn't happen, especially when DS refuses to nap and I have to stay up to plan/grade.

  • I said 6-8 but its closer to 8. DD sleeps 11-12 hrs at night so I could too if I went to bed earlier.

This. I think I'm getting around 6-7 but DD is waking anywhere from 1-4 times a night. I used to sleep like 10 hours every night so this is hurting!
  • DS is going through another growth spurt, mental leap, or dare I say teething stage! He's went from STTN/1 MOTN waking to waking every 2 hours for the past three nights. Combined with my very early morning/MOTN going to work times me and DH are walking zombies this week. :P
  • I voted 4-6, I work evening/nights and get home from work anywhere from 10 pm - 1 am. When I do get home I have to eat some "dinner", decompress and calm down for sleep. DS Usually wakes up between 4 - 6ish and USUALLY goes back to sleep until 7 or 8. But DH works anywhere between 6:30 and 8:30, so we're up to drive him to work then (one car family right now). So basically I'm up around 6 every day and in bed around 1ish on average.

    I'm. So. Tired.

This is me too. Wtf....I'm so tired! I'm actually considering sleep training.

  • Closer to 6 hours, and never more than 4 at once :: sad face :: My girls are sleeping upwards of 8+ hours at a stretch (miraculously!), but I still get up in the MOTN to pump. They used to get up around 3/4 AM (after I pumped at 1AM), and now that they're not doing that, I've seen a slight drop in my supply -- so there's no way I can go longer at night without pumping. Meh. Ah well, it won't be forever. Maybe.

  • I am actually in tears today and reading this made it worse. DD has slept through the night one time in seven months and ever since the four month wakeups her longest stretch is maybe five hours but most the time less. This week she is trying to log roll and crawl in her crib at night and keeps getting suck and seems to have forgotten how to self soothe altogether. She woke up six times last night and I know it us my fault because I am so tired that I am being inconsistent with how I react to her so she is not learning. I let her fuss but lately with her getting stuck I eventually have to check on her and that makes it worse. I yelled today and burst into tears. I just hate hate hate to hear her cry and am so lost.

  • @spainy17 can your DH or another family member take her off your hands for a bit so you can rest? I think you need a break so you can deal with the sleeping issue refreshed.

  • Sigh...I am dropping her off at the sitter for three hours so I can clean house and hopefully take a nap. I know I can't address this so sleep deprived. It is just so hard and feel like I am messing her up or she is going to hate me.

  • I'm starting to think I'm going to be doing CIO with a multiple-night-nursing toddler and it's freaking me out!!! I simply cannot sleep like this anymore, and I definitely can't see going to a year like this. I haven't slept longer than 4 hours at once since I was 5mos pregnant and I'm dyyyying. Ugh.
    Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • I put 6-8 but I think we're on our way to being able to sleep all night with no waking!!

I started the CIO method 2 nights ago. The first night she woke up at 230 and was awake until 4. Then up again at 7 then back to sleep until 930! Went to bed between 6 and 630 pm.

Last night she was up at 4 until about 445 then slept until just after 8!!

Hoping tonight continues the trend for fewer waking/less time awake :D

  • @martha919 I've kind of had to do that to eliminate the first night feeding (around midnight) because at this point I know it's out of habit. It went well the first night (she woke closer to 10 and only whimpered for a bit and then not up until her 5 am feeding). Last night was a lil rougher (up on and off from 12 to 1:30) but I tried to stand my ground. It's tough but I'm with you, I am exhausted and can't keep doing this multiple feedings per night. Good luck!

Us too it's awful! I can't believe I used to complain if he woke up 3 times, now that sounds so wonderful. I really hope it's a phase and not a pattern developing.
