Tragic death in DCP's family...WWYD?

My daycare provider texted yesterday that she wasn't taking children this week because her husband's fishing boat had been found without him in it. Today, they found his body. She had told me that no matter what, she wanted to go on and have kids in her center again starting 8/19, but this was when the search was still ongoing, and they thought he still might be found alive.

Should I ask before bringing Liam in on 8/19? Should I wait to hear from her?

Also, if his obituary says that his family wants donations to some organization, I definitely want to do that, but should I also send a card?

Sorry for all of the questions. They're a really nice family, and their daughter was one of my students, and the man who passed away would even occasionally help me get Liam, the diaper bag, etc., all situated so I could get Liam into the car after I picked him up. It's so sad thinking what they're going through and will be strange to go there knowing what's happened.

That is horrible! If you have a close enough relationship to call and offer sympathy, I would do that, but not bring up day care. Give her a chance to call you before the 19th to let you know her schedule. If it gets to be a couple of days before that, and you haven't heard from her, you can call back and ask.

Oh that is awful! I agree with Twirple, give her a chance to contact you regarding daycare, but if you feel comfortable doing so then call and offer your sympathies.
