Babies: 3 - 6 Months

6 month cake?

i was just checking out one of my high school friend's pictures on FB and she had pics from a 6 month celebration. it was a little party with family and friends to celebrate her LO turning 6 months old. that part seemed fairly normal.

then i got to a picture of half of a chocolate birthday cake. then the next few pictures were the little baby boy sticking his head in the cake, tearing it apart, and eating it. it reminded me of pics of a 1 year old's birthday party with half the cake missing. lol

maybe i'm just being a little too judgey but i would be super worried about giving DD cake at 6 months old. a taste would be fine but half a freakin' cake- no way! i would be too worried about allergic reactions because a cake has so many ingredients in it.

would you give your 6 month old chocolate cake?!

Re: 6 month cake?

  • no way.  If we have a cake it will only be for mommy and daddy

  • I wouldn't. I don't see why that would be a good idea at all.
  • No and I don't see the point of the party either.

  • No, I wouldn't give them cake at 6 months, but I also wouldn't give them a 6 month party either.

  • We got DD1 a cupcake with pink icing for her 6 month.  She wound up with it all over her, and I got a ton of funny pics.  She didn't actually eat any of it, but it was fun.

  • My parents had a party w/ cake at dds 1 month. It was defrosted cake from our shower (my parents will use any excuse to celebrate) dd had none - of course (didn't get near her).

IMO it's dangerous and ruins the fun of the first birthday

    agreed!

    This!

Doing a 6 month party with a cake (which is totally WRONG IMO) totally takes the fun out of their actual first birthday! Geez!

  • No cake and no party.  That's just strange - and I agree with pp's that it ruins the 1 year birthday.  We are however getting her some new toys that are more age appropriate.  Not wrapping them or making a big deal of it though, they will just sort of appear.

The parents are probably one of those people that will throw junk food at the baby at any occasion, not caring how it's affecting its health and future taste preferences,  so it's best to either avoid their fb so that you don't go grey haired, or tell them what you think and maybe it'll shame them a little (you might also get yelled at :P).

If it were me. I would stay the eff out of it... But definitely judge them from afar.

  • Definitely not. You're not supposed to give them sugar and salt.

  • The only reason I would even accept for having a party as described is if one of the parents or a similar person in the childs life was leaving i.e. being deployed until some point after the childs first birthday. Or said person had a terminal illness and was expected to die in a very short time. But even still the party as described would be iffy to me
