February 2013 Moms

words?

LO turns 6 mos this week and for the last 2 weeks she has been doing a lot of babbling. Mostly saying mamamamama. Now it is just Mama. I didn't believe she understood what she was saying but I have been hearing it first thing in the morning when she wakes. She no longer fusses, it's "Mama". She says it when she wakes from her naps as well. I had a dr. appt for myself yesterday and DH took her to visit Grandma. She wouldn't say it for a whole 2 hrs while he was prodding her to say it. As soon as I showed up, that's all she would say very excitedly. We are now focusing on saying Dada. She watches intently at our mouths and then actually tries to repeat it too, but just can't get the "D" out. Anyone else having great communication?

Re: words?

  • DD has been saying "dada" and "mama" for a few days now, but I don't think she knows what they mean yet. She's looked at her rattle and said "dada" and at the dog and said "mama," so at least I HOPE she doesn't know what they mean yet! It's also sounded like she's been saying "yeah" for months now, and we got one "uh oh!" when she was about four months, but she hasn't repeated that one.

Haha... And we were playing the piano yesterday and she was going "La! La! La!" every time she hit the keys, which was freaking adorable. :)

  • Jealous here!  DS1 was almost 2 years old before he would say Mama. He called me Baba and Vava but not Mama!  His first word was Dada.  DS2 has been babbling like crazy too and I thought I've been hearing Mama or Dada possibly but not really sure. I'm hoping Mama will be his first word of course but I'm not holding my breath.

  • Im getting a little worried about this with my DD. She was doing great with her babbling until she discovered how to blow raspberries. She is obsessed with it. When she is crawling around she is blowing raspberries. Getting her diaper changed, doing the same. She even attempted while nursing the other day. That felt weird. It is extremely entertaining to her. I try working on other sounds with her but she stares at my mouth and moves her mouth just a little bit but wont make a sound. Shes not even 6 months yet so I guess I shouldn't be too worried yet, I just love it when babies start to talk. It is so cute!

  • We have dada ALL day long! When he calls and I put it on speaker he babbles to him. When my husband comes home from work, he goes crazy for dada. Little old me who takes care of him all day gets the shaft!!
  • DD isn't really babbling a whole lot yet at all. She loves to growl. Yes, growl. She also likes to yell at us- not like she's crying, but she just yells and makes all sorts of different, very loud sounds. It's pretty funny. I do wish she would babble more though. She said dada yesterday for the first time, while looking at DH interestingly enough, but I'm pretty sure it was an accident and she didn't know what it meant.

  • Update: My mom just texted me to say it sounds like DD is saying "book." As a librarian, I wholeheartedly approve of this new addition to her vocabulary. Yay, nerd baby!!!

  • Put us down for yelling at toys
  • We are still in mostly vowel sound babbling. Ooohs and ahhhs and the like. He has started going MMMMMM when he's excited, but he keeps his mouth closed the while he's doing it, so no mama yet. Can't wait!!

  • Well, exciting news here ladies- E said "mama" very clearly 3x today. He has said mama before if he was fussy in someone else's arms and wants me, but today was the first day he just blatantly said mama. My mom and sister were both there to hear/ witness it!!! :-) so exciting! I love it!!!!

    Anniversary

  • Mine barely babbles but I think it is because his two older brothers talk nonstop all day long.  The poor baby can't get a word in for all of their talking.  I asked the pediatrician at the six month appointment about it and he said he doesn't look for sounds until 9 months and they should have mama and dada by then.

Same here! DS was saying Mama all the time but now is obsessed with raspberries. He does it all the time in public now and people look at me like I'm farting!! It's so embarrassing!

  • E was doing babababa a while a go and now says mamamamama. She says it when she's babbling to her toys, when she's mad and when she's really excited, so no meaning to it yet, but it's really cute.
