Tacky?

I have two friends (one friend and one cousin, actually) who are getting remarried. My friend got married in 2008, but got divorced and got engaged to someone else quickly. No kids. My cousin (with two kids, 14 and 18) has been divorced for several years. They both have a registry for their weddings. Is it common to register for second weddings? I am buying a present, of course, because I'll be attending the weddings but I wonder how common they are.

Re: Tacky?

  • I don't know if it's common or not, but of the people I know who are divorced, if they were to re-marry I would absolutely want them to register and get them a gift. New relationship new celebration. It's the same for babies IMO, I think every baby should get a shower, but I know that is typically frowned on.

  • My cousin got married recently to a woman who had already been married once (first marriage for my cousin).  There was no bridal shower, but they did register for wedding gifts.  I think registering for the wedding is fine, having another bridal shower seems a bit much.  I also don't like second baby showers, so there you have it :)

    I don't think it's tacky unless it's in the invite :)
My cousin's is in the invite and the other is on Facebook.

Both tacky. Not sure which is tackier, actually...

  • Technically tacky for second weddings. I know a lot of people will disagree with me, but I don't make the rules. My sister and her husband were both married for the second time last year, and not only did they not register, they requested no gifts on the invitation.
  • I don't think it is that common.
