Amber Teething Necklace

So, I'm intrigued by the popularity of these teething necklaces. From what I have read, LO needs to wear them 24/7. Don't you worry about baby wearing a necklace during naps and at night? Or am I just dumb and/or overprotective?

ETA: Plus, what if it breaks and those tiny beads go right into LO's mouth? These just seem like a choking and strangulation hazard to me :/

Re: Amber Teething Necklace

  • At night I double the necklace and put it on her ankle.  There are knots between each bead, so if the necklace broke all the beads wouldn't fall off, just one or two.  DD doesn't even notice it's there, she's never grabbed it or tried to play with it.  I know a few people who have used them and none of them have had any problems with them.
When we were on holidays I didn't put the necklace on her for a few days and she didn't sleep well at all.  I put it back on her and it took a few hours, but then she slept twice as long as she had in 4 or 5 days.

  • My friend's LO has an amber necklace and they swear by it. I'm thinking of looking into getting one.

  • We just started using one three weeks ago. We have a friend who swears by theirs, also. we did get the baby style one. Each bead has a knot tied on either side, just incase it breaks. The locking clasp is a screw type, rather than a latch or lock. LO wears it all day (even naps), but not to bed at night. there's no reason for this, she just doesn't. She does experience less drooling on the days she wears it. Maybe she's even a little less fussy.

  • Are they supposed to chew on it? Or is it supposed to be like those magnetic bracelets where there's some sort of wizard magic involved?

  • I just bought mine a few weeks ago. The amber beads are supposed to be right up against the skin close to where the baby might feel pain. (That's why it's typically a necklace for young teethers.) The amber is supposed to act as a natural analgesic somehow.

By the by, I ordered Inspired By Finn as well, it's meant to be one of the more high quality of products out there. I won't start using mine frequently til my LO holds his head up better. Good luck!

yeah.. I'm guessing this is some sort of homeopathic thing?

Sounds like sugar pills to me, personally.

  • "Amber is a natural analgesic and when worn on the skin, it releases healing oils that helps babies and young children to stay calm and more relaxed thoughout teething"...apparently.  And you also need to make sure that it is baltic amber for it to have these qualities.

i bought one for LO a couple weeks ago and it does seem to help.  i do take it off at night, even though we bed share just because i'm a nervous nelly.  i tried wrapping it around her ankle but it's a bit too big and just falls off...

  • We don't have amber necklaces around here, we have hazelnut necklaces. Different product, same form, geared towards teething and acidity. N received one as a gift and it's been sitting on a shelf... I might try it on him eventually but under supervision, as per the company's instruction. Or not.

  • We got an amber necklace for #2 when she started teething. Nothing else seemed to work and she was tearing up her knuckles once her teeth started coming in. That all stopped once she started wearing the necklace. She's 2 1/2 now and still wears it 24 hours a day. Each bead is individually knotted so if the necklace breaks (which it is intended to do if it gets caught), the beads don't all fall off. Since she's been wearing it so long, she doesn't even notice it there and doesn't mess with it. I'm getting another one for our almost 4 month old now.

  • I was given one of these and am a bit unsure of whether I am going to use it or not for the same concerns. But I heard so many great things about them.
