cutting back bottles

anyone's LO's starting to cutback their formula/BM on their own?  DD is still having the same 6-7oz per bottle 5 times a day, and also having 3 meals and 2 snacks.  I can't remember when to start cutting back on her formula and making the meals more significant.

Re: cutting back bottles

  • I feel like the meals are more significant but she still takes the milk.  I'm just following her cues.  I find that if I don't wait until she's HUNGRY, she's more willing to take the solid food...and then she'll either skip the bottle or bump it.  So, I try to anticipate her next feeding and offer her solids first.  Once she's had them and she's played a bit and then she gets all fussy again, I know it's time for a bottle

  • My DS gave up bottles all together about 3 weeks ago.  For some reason he just decided he was done with the bottle and would scream when you gave it to him.  He knows how to drink from a straw cup, but it is a struggle to get him to drink milk from it.  He is only drinking about 5 oz while I am at work so we have upped his daytime solids.  He is making up for drinking less during the day by nursing a lot at night. I thought it might have been a phase but it seems here to stay.

  • Same here @mmnumber5.  He won't eat anything.  He's great at throwing it on the floor and hitting the spoon though.  Bottles have stayed the same.

Same here too.  She'll eat like normal for a few bites and then it's a challenge to get through the rest.

We're down to 3 bottles at around 6-7 oz but our pedi suggested mixing the formula with whole milk and see if she can handle it.  So far it's working great, so I'm really hoping formula is on the way out for good.  She was wasting a ton of it too until we mixed it up.
