Seriously.
MIL babysat DD Saturday night overnight. My mom was really taken back by this - not that we asked MIL, but that MIL agreed to it. (my mom does not do overnight babysitting, which makes me angry and I hope she snaps the f out of it since I have so many wonderful childhood memories of sleepovers at my grandmothers, but I digress).....
We also had put my mom and stepdad on babysitting probation until DD was a few months older because she gets way too overwhelmed with the baby phase... So my rule was no more babysitting until she's 6 months.
When she seemed sad about my MIL - I asked her if she wanted to come over tonight for dinner to spend some time with her grandaughter.
Her response -we'd love to but we will have to do take out, I don't want you cooking. Ummm, no I don't want gross, fattening take out, and newsflash - i'm going to cook anyways as we need to eat dinner....
Then I ask her today if she's still comign and she says 'I don't know if we should, you've had a long week." I should have said then fine, don't.....
Seriously I Don't know why I make all of this effort when NOTHING seems to be recipricated. She over complicates everything. And I feel like I"m doing cartwheels to try and get her to have a bond with DD. SHe'd never pull this crap with my sister - that's for sure.
I also asked her to babysit two more times in September -she can't do either, which is fine, but keeps trying to insist that she will do a few hours on one of the days when we go to a wedding. Then had the audacity to ask us to leave the wedding early, and then it would work, this after I had already told her twice I'd just pay someone.
I want to scream. I'm seriously done putting in an effort with her. IF she feels bad about things from now on, it's her own problem!

And I'm confused. First you complain about her not doing overnight babysitting and then say you put your mom on babysitting probation but then you asked her to babysit multiple times next month? It sounds as if you're over-complicating things.
She is bringing a dish.
She can't get upset about now having a close relationship and then turn down offers. Like I said, I'm going to be cooking dinner anyways - IT's not like she offered for us to come there instead.
That's the thing - she acts like she's so concerned but NEVER offers to help me with anything, I just got the dinner she promised me when LO was born last Friday.
Classic case of can't have her cake and eat it too.

I get what you're saying- the old "But I want it!!!" (the universal IT) and when you give it to them "Why'd you give me this?"
Insecurity, jealousy, low self-esteem blah, blah, blah, Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz.........on my side of the fence I'm so tired of this crap. Like you, I'm done placating and extending so far it hurts. If they are upset or unhappy, it's on them. I'm not responsible for other people's happiness or their relationship with my LO when I've opened every door for them!
