Success after IF

I just need a break

I really need a month to go by where nothing major happens, where my body works how it's supposed it, where the kids aren't sick or being diagnosed with something, where my husband isn't gone a ton, where my in-laws aren't co-opting my children for a full week.........

November - My dad has major surgery for aortic anyeurysms.  Had Maren and she's wonderful but there's still all that newborn lack of sleep to deal with along with the holidays.

February - at my post-partum check-up I find out I have what amounts to stage 0 cervical cancer, I have a Leep procedure done to remove the bad cells and spend a few weeks bleeding and worrying if we'll ever be able to do a FET.

May - go back for a follow-up pap test and it's still abnormal

June - I get a pinched nerve in my neck and can't lift Maren or Sully for weeks.  That same month my in-laws come and spend two weeks in a rented house and my husband and kids pretty much move in with them leaving me to go to work everyday and come home to an empty house.  Find out that Sully most likely needs speech therapy.

July - Arm and shoulder finally getting better but I start spotting every day and full-on bleeding at just random times.  I have three periods in one month.  In-laws come for another week and again, the kids are with them the entire week.  Sully has his hernia surgery.

August - Still spotting and bleeding so trip to the doc to have tissue samples taken from my uterus.  Fun.  Now stressing over waiting on the results while dealing with a sinus infection, two kids with colds and some weird hive/bug bite thing on my stomach that itches like mad. Trying to get everything ready for the kids to go back to school and set up Sully's speech therapy evaluation when I find out, oh, the in-laws are coming AGAIN and want the kids to stay with them for the next five days.

I know things could be a lot worse and I should focus on the positive but gosh, I just need a vacation.

Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck.  Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.

Re: I just need a break

  • Gosh, big hugs to you!  Sorry it's been so stressful!  Perhaps your ILs think they are "helping you" by taking the kids, so you get to rest and don't have to take care of them?  Have you talked to YH about it?  Perhaps there's a way to reach a happy compromise?

  • UGH. More hugs coming your way.

I had abnormal paps, had the copo and all was fine for SEVEN years. Naturally until I went for annual before IVF 1 - and it came back abnormal. I have been able to avoid the LEEP so far, but am terrified. I go on the 26th for ANOTHER pap. My second one this year... It sucks - that part I can feel you on.

Do your in-laws think they are helping you out by taking the kids?  Tell your husband to tell them to back off if you don't want to keep 'taking them away.'

Maybe once you guys kick the colds you and your husband could get away for nice dinner/drinks alone?  I'd say you could drop the kids off at our house, but I don't know if I could handle 6 kids under 7 ;) or could you take the fam away on an overnighter to the Dells or something before school starts, just the 6 of you?

  • ((Huge hugs)) that is more than enough to deal with! I really hope you get a break soon! I agree with pp's, maybe your IL's think they are doing you a favor. Definitely talk to yh about this.

FWIW, I know a little boy who needed speech therapy (very late talker) and is doing great now. He is in 4th grade and does excellent in school.

  • Yes, my in laws definitely feel that they are doing me a big favor by taking the kids but I have made it clear to them that my weekends are really my time with them since I work during the week.  I try and be accomodating to their schedules on when they can visit and if it was just one time this summer then fine but three times is just getting to be too much.  My husband is definitely going to metion something to them about the weekend thing.  They are retired so I don't think it's asking too much for them to visit on weekdays, at least during the summer when they older kids aren't in school.
