Trouble TTC

I'd like to hit Jimmy Falon

So..... IUI #1 didn't work. Then we took a month off and that didn't work either (trying naturally, that is). And then my mom AND my best friend are like, "Well, Jimmy Falon said to keep trying!"

Okay, so I actually LOVE Jimmy Falon and have met him a few times (we went to college together before he dropped out). And I agree with him - keep trying as long as you're on board. But Jimmy, Oh Jimmy, I don't have the money to try for 5 years and then hire a surrogate.

And... wait for it, wait for it..... a good friend of mine let me know she just found out she was pregnant. I'm happy for her, I really am. I also want to throat punch her, but that's another post entirely. LOL

Lately I've been doing SO well. Not worrying about it. Not even getting depressed with the BFNs. But between people telling me to be like Jimmy Falon and then my friend letting me know she's pregnant... well, let's just say I wasn't as 'okay' as I thought. Thanks for letting me vent!!! I needed it!

  • I actually think Jimmy Fallon would understand :)

    Hang in there sweets... (((hugs)))

  • If you listen to the interview, he says "try all you can". I too think he'd be understanding that not everyone can afford all he did. At the same time your friends and family are just trying to be supportive. Sorry you're having a hard week. (((hugs)))

  • Oh I'm sure he was grateful. And I'm not taking away from their pain from the struggle with IF. But I also think it's easier when you have all the means and resources available. We can't even do IVF.... too expensive and insurance won't cover it. Doesn't mean I'm jealous or angry with HIS success. I just think it's two different worlds....

  • Yeah, I agree with a pp that the more annoying part is that most people don't get the full message of what he was probably trying to say.  So as people think they're helping, they'll say things like, "Well Jimmy Fallon did it!" or "Bill & Giuliana Ranic are thinking about having baby #2 - you can do it!"...and that is frustrating since not all IF circumstances are the same - whether it's financial circumstances or the diagnosis.  But I like to think that at least they are being public about it.  I'd feel even more isolated if the media never mentioned IF issues people have.

  • I had the same moments of annoyance that you did! I am glad I am not the only one. IF should be covered by insurance and that seems to be left out of most conversations in the media. Celebrities have all the money in the world to fight this disease. It really does get aggravating when people say, "Oh Jimmy Fallon got a surrogate", or "Tom Arnold did 21 IVFs".... let's see, surrogate= $100,000, 21 ivfs times $20,000 =$ 420,000....
I understand that the celebrities are getting the word out there and that is good for all of us. I just wish some of them would start fighting for insurance coverage so all of us could have the same chance.
