This time around I will not go without a good rocker (I want the overatuffed armchair kind) and a stroller that cinverta from a single to a double like the babyjogger city select.
I have a mai tai type wrap that I love plus the like frontpack kind. I want an ergo so badly but DF says I am not allowed to repurchase stuff we already have lol
Had an old school military hand me down granny rocker last time, so I to am getting a nice chair. The my breast freind nursing pillow saved beeastfeeding for me, so a new one of those. And a second ergo carrier, so we can have my DD in back and baby in front.
I think I am with you on the rocker! We got a classic wooden rocker for my son and even with cushions it is not comfortable. My other must have is another diaper genie elite. We have one up in my sons' room and I plan on getting another for downstairs. I really like it because it is so easy to use! It has a pedal to step on and then you just drop the diaper in, that's it!
Some method of wearing my baby. I have a moby, ergo and maya ring sling - all of which are great for different ages/stages. Hands down the most helpful item.
This. We have the moby, a maya ring sling, mei tai, and an ergo. When babe was tiny we used the moby the most, now it's the ergo hands down. Just recently my almost one year old DS spent almost an entire day walking around downtown Seattle in it. I nursed him in it, he napped in it, and it was so handy.

The Halo sleep sack was a God-send with DS! I'll make sure we stock up for #2. Also, we splurged on a really comfy glider/recliner and it was AMAZING for the middle of the night feedings.
Muslin swaddle blankets! Especially the bamboo ones! Living in a tropical climate it is ALWAYS too warm for all the cute baby blankets we were given. I'm so glad I had a friend introduce me to the muslin blankets, they are AMAZING, we have about 15 because we use them All the time!
An actual rocker! We didn't get one the first time around and I made due... but I am going to need something, especially with already having another little one.
DH and I actually went through our list of "must haves" this time around. We need an infant insert for the moby, a bed (for either DD or guppy) and MAYBE a double since Emma will be under 2 still. We're on the fence though.

Those are on woot.com today for 9.99 each!!! (Woot is owned by amazon and totally amazing)
My must have's were the Rock-in-Play (DS slept in the for 5 months) and a good (or 5) carrier since I babywear. Also, when I was pregnant with my second we decided to get a double stroller and got the City Select, can't tell you how much we love that stroller, it pretty much fits anywhere.
~Missed MC at 8 weeks. D&C at 12 weeks on 4/17/13~
The My Brest Friend nursing pillow (worst name ever) - we still use it at 18 mo. Aiden + Anais anything - swaddle blankets, burpie bibs, lovies, sleep sacks. A good jogger if you exercise. The UppaBaby G-Luxe umbrella stroller for errand and travel. A baby wearing device.
I will definitely have a super comfortable rocking chair. I injured my tailbone giving birth to DS & the wood frame glider rocker was Hell on my ass.
I, also, want to really babywear this time around. So, maybe an ergo with infant insert or the k'tan. I think it is gonna be a great help to wear #2 while chasing an active 2.5 year old.
Would not have lived without my Beco! We used a stroller maaaaybe a dozen times over DS's first year and everytime I had him in the stroller, I'd think "I wish I was wearing him!" Even now, if he is cranky and refusing to nap, I pop him in the Beco and go for a walk. 5 minutes later he's sound asleep.
Every mama & baby are different though, so what is a must-have for one mom might be on the 'didn't even touch it' list for another. You'll figure out what works for you!
Ditto the Halo swaddle me's and sleep sacks. DS still wears one every night. Also our snug-a-bunny swing!! DS slept and napped in that for a long time. When you have a colicky baby you're desperate to find something/somewhere your LO will sleep.
It is my first baby, but I have lots of Nieces and nephews, a swing was the first thing I bought. My niece actually asked me to use my swing for my great niece because she was fussy when she was visiting me so I put her in the swing and she settled right away.
I'm a relatively clueless first timer, but I talked to my cousin last night- her daughter is a week old- and she said the swing has been a life saver so she can shower and not feel bad about setting the little one down for a bit. & she usually conks right out in the swing, too.
The yoga ball saved us for the first six months. We had a terrible sleeper, and he often would only fall asleep if we bounced him on the yoga ball. You think you can mimic the motion of the yoga ball with your legs - nope. He'd fall asleep, I'd stand up but keep bouncing, and BOOM! He's be awake. I actually hated that thing by the end because I spent so much time on it, but it really soothed him.
We also looooooved swaddling blankets.
The Oxo tooli nightlight was awesome for MOTN feedings, changes, etc. The yellow one emits a glow like a candle, so you can do what you need to do without turning on lights.
And of course, babywearing stuff. We used the Moby in the beginning and then switched to the Ergo. We used a Beco for awhile but I really preferred the Ergo.
The Swaddle Me's were fantastic until the little ninja started breaking free and then we switched to the Miracle Blanket. A+A's were great too but DH wasn't so awesome at swaddling tight enough with those. DS hated the Sleep Sacks. Every baby is different so it doesn't pay to buy a ton of any particular thing before LO arrives and voices their opinions. Also for the first time mommas out there, if you are short-waisted (like I am) try on the stupid Boppy/Brest Friend before buying it. I never used either because they were too thick and would have put DS up too high to nurse.
Re: Swings Not all babies like the motion of a swing, but if you want to get one I suggest one that plugs into the wall. They are pretty efficient on batteries, but we still went through quite a bit since DS LOVED his swing and would give me a 4 hour nap in it every day.

Do you have a recommended make/model?
Fisher Price snug a bunny! The greatest swing ever made!
We got the fisher price Zen Collection swing. It plugs in, rocks forward/back OR side/side and you can take the base off and use it as a stationary floor seat (like a rock n play that doesn't rock). Plus, it's pretty gender neutral.

My wrap (we got a WAHM brand called LoveyDuds)
Boppy was essential too
Something to swaddle... we found the SwaddleMe wraps were best at first
Lots of prefold diapers for burp cloths, under the head in the crib, and of course as actual diapers too. Those were versatile and invaluable!
