Trouble TTC

IVF and Traveling

Hi Ladies - So we're in the midst of our first IVF cycle and I'm actually super excited about it!  If all goes according to plan, we're scheduled to have ER around 9/6 and ET about 3 weeks later, around 9/27.  However, yesterday my boss informed me that because of my recent performance blah blah I've been chosen to go to Tokyo in November for our yearly global audit meeting!  I may NEVER have a chance to travel to Asia for FREE ever again so I feel like I have to take advantage of this opportunity.  Does anyone have any experience or know anyone who's flown while pregnant (assuming that the IVF works)?  I'll only be about 5 weeks past ET, so it's still very early on - I just don't know if it's safe when you have IF issues, or if one has nothing to do w/the other.  The other thing is that I don't want to count my chickens before they hatch, say I can't go because of IVF, and then NOT have it work.  In case you didn't see my post about work earlier this week, I'm not planning to tell them what's going on and I'm just going to say I have some medical issues and need a sick day here and there.  What would you do???

Re: IVF and Traveling

  • I would say go!  When are you going to have another chance like this?  Plus, the excitement of planning for the trip will help take your mind off the IVF (a little) and might help reduce stress regarding "am I gonna get a BFP? am I gonna get a BFP? am I gonna get a BFP?" which can only be a good thing.  For me, if I didn't go, I would feel even more pressure to get a BFP which would ensure I wouldn't get one.

I know women in early pregnancy travel all the time, but I don't know anything about IVF, so I'd check with your doctor.  But I think this is a perfect case of not letting IF interfere with your life.

Hi OP, I would also plan to go on the trip. I do not think it is a problem traveling while pregnant (FX that you will be!), unless you are into the 3rd trimester.

Also, isn't the ET about 3 days after ER (not 3 weeks)?
Hi Chic.  Yes, normally the ET is 3 or 5 days after.  However, I have an extremely high follicle count (over 100 due to anovulation/PCOS oy!), and they're concerned about hyper-stimulation.  So they're going to freeze our embryos and wait 3-4 weeks so my system "calms down," then do a FET.
