I'm part of a home school group (because I used to be a teacher so I do free portfolio assessments and tutor in French). There was a fire in the house of one of the homeschool families and they lost everything. They have five kids, the youngest is 3 weeks. The person who sent the email said the kids and mother had to leave the house so quickly that most of them didn't even have shoes on and they only have the clothes they were wearing. Red Cross gave them a voucher for 3 nights in a hotel and after that they're on their own.
I'm giving them clothes DD outgrew and some formula and bottles. I keep thinking about stuff a newborn needs and there's just so much. I can't imagine trying to start over when DD was that young, much less with 4 older kids. It's so sad. I feel so badly for them.
Re: Sad story
Other families in the homeschool group are donating clothes for the older kids and GCs to Target. So they are getting some help. But still... losing everything must be so awful.
Kate, I thought our insurance would cover it, too. I'm not sure, maybe they just don't have a "good " policy? I have no idea.

I think its standard for all homeowners insurance to have something like that their policy. I only say that because we are shopping around for new insurance now, & I know that it's been included in all of the quotes.hopefully they get it straightened out soon though I can't imagine having the stress of losing everything along with not knowing where you are going to stay. I'm glad they are getting help from friends and family though, that can mean a lot.
