Baby Shower - Tell me your favorite part of yours!

I'm putting on a shower for a girl friend of mine (she had a 2 month early baby and still in NICU so send up some prayers for them please!).  Tell me the favorite thing about the showers you have recently been to.  Anything from the setup to decor to food to games!  I'm really wanting to break away from the typical open the gifts and pass them all around...ugh, ideas welcome!!!

  • My shower had a Bollywood theme and everyone came dressed in sarees and there was fabric draped all over the place and fake flower petals scattered everywhere. Paper lanterns hanging from the ceiling and metal lanterns on the tables :) (my BFF is seriously awesome!)

oh my goodness that sounds fun! i can already picture it in my head haha

but my favorite was just seeing all the guest, because i havent seen them in forever. everyone has been busy. and it was nice to get everyone together.my baby shower was more of a cookout. it was nice. i very much enjoyed it.
  • I liked all of it but here's some ideas. We had a Dr Seuss theme. My mom made truffela trees out of sticks and tissue paper. We had green eggs and ham (spinach bacon quiche). the games weren't themed but they funnest was probably the guess the baby food in the jar game. Its hard to tell between carrots and sweet potatoes and squash. Especially if u don't see them every day. My sister made me a diaper cake. It had all sorts of toys and baby tools on it. Great gift idea for any baby shower!!

  • I have been to a couple in the last few months. The biggest difference I noticed was gift opening. In one the gifts were opened while people were still eating and no one was really paying attention while in another they played baby gift bingo. Everyone got a bingo card and marked gifts off as the mom got them. This got more people to pay attention to what was going on and there wasn't nearly as much chatter in the background. I really liked that!!

  • My cousin had everyone bring a onesie that they thought represented their personality. I had to guess which person brought the onesie. One of my aunts brought a camouflage onesie. I have friends that are into hunting/riding horses/ rodeo and thought it was one of them. I went through all 6 of those people and that onesie was the last one I got correct. My aunt said she picked it, because she thought it represented nature. It was pretty funny!

  • I really enjoyed the games. It is kind of an ice breaker and lifts the mood too. :) Just make sure you do fun games and not just word games or something.

My sister and sister-in-law printed out alphabet coloring book pages from the internet and then had everyone color a page and write a note to the baby.  They're going to laminate them all so we have a custom alphabet book! It was so cute, hadn't seen that before.
Love this! I might have to steal this if I ever have to plan another baby shower for someone!
I *think* my friends throwing my shower next weekend are doing this.  I've heard little bits and pieces from the main hostess- I'm super excited for it :-)

I also love the Giving Tree book idea and having all the guests sign the book for baby.

A shower I threw last year we set up a tripod and took a picture of the mom-to-be with each guest and then a large group picture as well.  Each guest was then given a notecard to write out a piece of advice for the parents to be.  I then developed the pictures and put them in an album with the guests notecard under their picture.  The mom to be loved it.
  • I was at one recently that did gift bingo, fun but predictable, and another gift opening game. Everyone got a bracelet at the start. Whenever someone said "cute" another person could steal their bracelet. The person with the most at the end won.

For mine, my mom included a piece of stationary and envelope with the invitation for people to write my LO a letter she'll open on her 18th birthday. I'm already looking forward to that day!

  • I went to a shower that the hostess had requested the guests bring books in lieu of cards.  I loved the idea and suggested it to my sister who hosted mine, but she forgot to include that request in the invitations :(  Just thought it was a cute way to share memories.

  • I'm not having a shower, but if I did it would be the food. Make sure you have great food and yummy cake.

  • Loved our shower! It was a co-ed baby-q cowboy theme. i loved having my husband be a part of it. We held at our new house - 60 guests! My sister surprised me with asking everyone bring a book for the baby. So we have a lot of books for baby! My sister in law surprised me with a couple games - one was a mad libb and she asked me name a noun, adjective, etc thruout the party. The story was funny when she announced "my labor story" to everyone near the end of the party. She also organized a game where these small babies were in ice cubes and when it completely melted in your cup or hand you yell My Water Broke and get a prize. I gave out wine to the best dressed guest. The only presents I opened were my mediate family and they were the last guests to leave so it wasn't in front of everyone. There was too much food, I mingled the entire time since I didn't do the formal sit down with gifts, and the cankles I received from planning and being on my feet for the party was totally worth it!
  • At my shower for my DD my mom let every table pick out a vegetable  (squash, cauliflower, etc.).  They didn't know what it was for.  Once every table had one, they were told as a team they were to create a "baby" from their vegetable.  They could use anything on their table or from their pocketbooks to create it. When they finished them, they lined them up and I had to judge the winner.  I have a pretty crazy family, so we had some crazy babies.  Everyone was laughing the entire time.

This went along with my bridal shower.  At that shower every table had to create a toilet paper wedding dress on someone from the table. Then just like the babies, they had to accessorize with things from their table and their pocketbooks.  When they were finished there was a "fashion show" with music.  I was that judge for that too.

    Wonderful Memories! :)

  • When I hosted a shower I had a decorate a onesie station instead of games. I bought white onesies in sizes NB - 12 months. I also bought tie dye materials, paint pens, stencils, etc. Guests loved decorating them and the momma to be loved putting her baby in onesies from the shower for the first year. :)
