Ladies I do not no what else to do. My daughter is killing 9oz bottles every 3 hours at almost 5 months old. She sleeps 9-12 hours at night and some daily naps but I just feel the amount she eats is crazy its 45+ ounces a day!
Should I start solids? I am trying to get into our pedi but it wont be till later in the week and my poor daughter is just so hungry!
Advice? I give her rice cereal in her bottle at night and she loves it but I worry about adding it to all her bottles.

  • I would start solids and see what happens.. But that's just me :)

I have a Daughter born 2/26/2013. She is pretty much amazing!

  • I would talk to someone at the doctor's office first before trying solids.

  • At 5 months, she can start some solids if you want to - maybe some oatmeal cereal. 45 oz is a lot of formula and 9 oz at one feeding is a lot. I would also make sure that she is truly hungry if she's crying. This is the age when boredom starts to really set in. I would make sure that she is clean, dry, and entertained before giving her a bottle.

  • I am no expert but there are several other posts today about people starting cereal at 4 months. Maybe try some cereal and see if she is more satisfied

  • Solids aren't supposed to replace BM or formula though, right? Food before one is just for fun?
  • I'd do oat cereal instead of rice - more nutrients
  • Like PP said, food before one is just for fun. BM or formula is all she needs right now. Maybe try feeding her more frequently? She could be hitting the 6 month growth spurt early.
  • Also, just because it "seems like a crazy amount" to you doesn't mean it is a crazy amount for her. Every baby is different. Every person is different. We don't all eat exactly 2000 calories a day, why would babies all eat the same amount? Unless she's not gaining weight well or there's some other health problem I wouldn't worry about this at all.
