Success after IF

MOTY award

I think it's my turn for (worst) MOTY award!

I take my shower after I put M down for his first nap.  He almost always puts himself to sleep before I get into the shower, and always asleep by the time I'm done.  However, lately he's taking longer to fall asleep at times, due to separation anxiety + 5th tooth cutting through.

This morning I did my usual nap routine with him, then took a shower. He was still whining when I was done (15 mins). I waited another 5 minutes to see if he'd fall asleep, but his cries started to escalate.  We only have an audio monitor; I try NOT to go into his room b/c that usually riles him up more.

Anyway, after 20 mins, I went into his room b/c he was crying more.  Ugh, poor M was STANDING in his crib sobbing (while wearing his sleepsack).  I know he can pull himself up to stand but haven't seen him done it with the sleepsack.  He was crying because he was tired and couldn't get down.  I don't know how long he's been standing...  I felt like the worst mother ever.

I laid him back down and he was out in a matter of minutes.  Maybe we should splurge on a video monitor.

Re: MOTY award

  • Aw PB don't beat yourself up. We've all done similar things. When we just had our audio monitor, I once let DD cry for about 20 min then went in and realized she had pooped and was rolling around in it. I felt terrible.

We did end up getting a video monitor, and I have to say I don't regret spending the extra money AT ALL. Especially now that DD is in a toddler bed and has some freedom, it is really worth it.

  • Girl, if the worst thing you do as a mom is let your kid stand and scream for 20 minutes while you take a shower I think you really do deserve a Mom of the Year Award ;)  Don't be upset.  He survived and won't ever remember it ever happened in 30 seconds.

This!!! Plus, maybe it all just tired him out and finally allowed him to get to sleep.

  • The same happened to my DD this am - except she can only get to her knees.  I was just downstairs talking to my mom for few minutes letting her cry.  The other day, she was crying and then stopped and went to sleep - when I checked on her, she had a leg stuck in the crib rails.  If you are bad then I am a 1000x worse!

  • Just like our sweet little ones to make us feel so awful. Maybe a video monitor would be good.

  • I layed A down once when she was out cold. A few minutes later she started fussing and crying. I tried letting her go a little hoping she would fall back asleep. Well, I have her 15 minutes and she was so upset! I picked her up and she let out a huge burp and was asleep again in 10 minutes. I felt so horrible:(. It happens. Don't beat yourself up!
