It is my neice that is going to sit for us. She is only 14 and going into high school but other people are using her already so I want to be fair and I know she would never tell me a rate.

When I nannied (just one day per week) I was paid $10/hr or $100/day, whichever was more. That is also what the family paid the other nanny who worked the remaining four days a week.
I am SO glad my parents live close by and watch the kids for free - we would never get to have date nights if we had to pay!
Small town Iowa, a friend of ours insisted we not pay her daughter more than $2.50 per hour, her going rate. But XH paid her $5. I thought that was more than reasonable.
No doubt I'll be paying more in the city I'm moving to.
My times have changed. When I was a kid, it was $1 an hour and if you got $1.50 an hour you were considered pretty damn good and were a high demand babysitter.

Yeah things are definitely more in NJ than 5 and hour. The only person that I know that uses a sitter is planning on using gym neice so I felt weird asking her. I have to ask around now.

Around here (SF Bay Area) professional nannies/babysitters make around $25 an hour, and the teenagers make between $10-15, depending on number of kids and ages. I think $10 an hour is reasonable for a 14 year-old who is relatively inexperienced.
15 years ago when I was babysitting, I got $10 an hour for watching 4 kids ages 2-8! (Get off my lawn, you kids!)
Re: What do you pay a teenage babysitter per hour
Would love to find a cheaper option, but every time we had one they flaked out on us.
