8 Weeks Pregnant

8 Weeks with TWINS

After years of trying and failing, thanks to modern medicine and IVF I?m finally pregnant and twice blessed with twins! Funny thing is, tomorrow I will be 8 weeks and I look more like 5 months! My stomach must be super bloated because baby am I getting big lol. I've had a series of U/S's already and have seen their little heartbeats going strong, tomorrow is my next U/S ( I get one each week up til 10 weeks after which I'm passed on from my IVF specialist to my OBgyn).

So far my symptoms are:

Very sore boobies
Nauseous but no Vomiting
Extreme Forgetfulness (who am I?)
Food Aversions (Peeewww)
Cravings (Pizza and Ice Cream anyone?)
Extreme Fatigue - Literally fell asleep at my desk
Slight Cramping

None of which I will complain about after all it took for me to get pregnant I will gladly take every symptom with a smile :-)  I have grown out of most of my regular clothes and have had to purchase maternity items such as jeans, pants and some tops. I'm so excited and it's still surreal that after losing the one pregnancy I had a year ago, I'm pregnant with two babies :-)

Blessings to all you mama's to-be :-)

Re: 8 Weeks with TWINS

  • Congratulation!!!  I just found out today that I'm pregnant with twins also.  They send me to see an u/s because I was spotting a bit.  They found no bleeding and two babies.  We're excited and terrified at the same time.  We have a 10 month old right now.  We have always want two.  I guess god have other plans.

So far I've been so hungry and if i don't eat its extreme nausea.  No throwing up yet.  Hate the smell of coffee.  And of course, extremely tired.

  • Hi,

Congratulations!  I am also 8 weeks today with twins.  I did IVF twice and it worked this time.  I am excited, scared, and overwhelmed.  I heard two heartbeats.  The doctor said one of the babies is a few days behind.  I have in idea if that is a big deal.  What are your babies heartbeats?  Last week one was 117 and one was 137.  I go again tomorrow.  Do either of you live in Colorado?   I feel sick, tired, and I am never hungry.  I need to force myself to eat.  I do love pizza and ice cream right now.  I am so glad to have the chance to talk with you both.

  • Hey ladies!

So glad to read up on others' experiences thus far! I am 8 wks today and found out earlier this week that my husband and I are also expecting twins! We went through so much to get here, and finally after an IVF procedure, we are expecting! It's so very exciting, but also very scary. I know things will start to line up and not be so overwhelming, but right now I kinda freak out thinking about the future with two babies at one time!

I'm also experiencing a little nausea but no vomitting. My tummy cramps are mild but some days my whole body simply aches everywhere! I've been able to eat and tolerate most things still... but I have noticed that I can't take the smell of tomato sauce, like with spaghetti or lasagna! I feel really bad for my husband because of course those are his favorite meals Stick out tongue I have also already bought some maternity pants and a maternity band for my jeans! I didn't think my clothes would so quickly become uncomfortable to wear.

My husband and I are simply thrilled about these new additions to our lives! I hope to be able to keep in touch with you all over the next year!

    Congrats to you all!!

EDD: Oct. 27th (if we make it to 39 wks!)

  • Hello!  First and foremost, congratulations!  I have totally been right where you are!

My husband and I tried for 4 years to conceive with no luck and went to IVF.  We now have beautiful, healthy 15 month old twin girls.  IVF to pregnancy to birth was a lot and very quickly....most importantly is to take care of yourself, listen to your body and enjoy it!

I remember feeling very large in my stomach area around 6 - 8 weeks as well.  I was told due to all the hormone business of IVF, there can be a lot of fluid which can cause bloating.  Plus, pregnancy causes bloating and water retention as well.  I wore my regular jeans until about week 11-12 and changed over once it was uncomfortable sitting.  The best thing you can do is weigh yourself every week at the same day/time.  It's the only way to see if your gaining to much or too little. It'll give you peace of mind and it's fun to know the babies are growing.  I remember having cramps as well.  I was told it was due to my ovaries being so enlarged and it would take a bit for them to shrink back down to normal.   I also had days were I was completely exhausted....your body is doing so much right now....rest, rest, rest!  My doctor told me to become a "Lady of Leisure" my 1st trimester.  LOL!  Honestly, I didn't have much of a choice I was so tired.  I had much more energy during my 2nd trimester.  Also, remember that any concerns, thoughts, or questions you have, you can always check with your doctor.

I lost 6 pounds my first trimester because of all the food aversions and nausea.  Plus, I became much more aware of what I was eating and ate much healthier. All in all, I gained 50 pounds during my pregnancy and carried them to 38 weeks to a scheduled C-section.  I gave birth to a 6 lb baby and a 6 lb 7 oz baby.  We left the hospital in 3 days.  I loved being pregnant with them.  It's such an honor...enjoy every minute!

I ran across your post tonight in the 8 weeks pregnant forum because I am 8 weeks pregnant as well!  We just found out last week....all on our OWN!  It is truly unreal and still a shock.  We were told repeatedly, medically, statistically we would basically never conceive on our own.  I guess it just goes to show you can plan and plan and sometimes there is a bigger picture!

So, I've done the twin pregnancy....the single pregnancy should be cake, right!?!  Having 3 under the age of two, now that is going to be the real challenge, LOL!  We couldn't be more thrilled!

Sorry to have gotten so lenghty!  Congratulations to your family, again!  Please drop me a note if you ever want to talk or have questions!

  • So glad to hear from someone with TWINS! I found out during week 7 that there were TWO in there, and it's been quiet a shock. This is my first pregnancy, and my husband and I just went off the birth control the month prior to conception. So it's happened pretty quickly for us. Congratulations on yours!!

So happy to hear your symptoms (mine are very similar, aside from showing yet) and feel "normal."

I've actually lost weight since becoming pregnant because of all the food aversions (went from eating everything in sight to not wanting much of anything, ever)...and I'm just now learning to manage to eat when I have an appetite, so I get the proper nutrition before the nausea comes back.  I've not been vomiting either, which is a blessing I'm sure!

I've been eating a lot of pizza Pizza too :) Ice cream whenever possible-- but be careful, as carriers of twins we have to watch the sugar intake since we have a much higher risk of gestational diabetes!

I've been falling asleep all over the place Sleep-- these little guys are wearing me out!  Oh, and the GAS is starting. Whoopie!

    Best of luck!  Big Smile

  • Congratulations! That is wonderful!
