Tummy Sleepers

Does anyone here let their babies sleep on their tummies? I know it's not recommended (I even had one pediatrician tell me never, EVER, to do it, even if the baby sleeps horribly as a result), but...life is life, and I know it happens.
I'm asking because I do, and I'm still nervous about it (to the point that I am sleeping horribly because I have to keep checking on her). I know SIDS is scary, and minimizing risk is important, but my daughter literally will not sleep on her back anymore.

    I only let him sleep on his tummy now every once in a while for naps. I have never put his him on his tummy during the night though. I will be more comfortable about him sleeping on his tummy at night when he can roll from back to tummy and do it himself. 

    Can your daughter roll?

    @ClandestineX: She can roll, but does so very rarely, and only from back to tummy, never the other way around.

    Paige rolls from back to tummy and almost always when put on her back rolls to sleep on her side or tummy. Makes me nervous, I know she cant roll back over if she wanted to but i am assuming if she puts herself in that position there isnt much I can do about it. My husband puts her back on her stomach after his turn of MOTN- and it makes me super nervous but I know she was in that position in the first place...
    does she ever roll on her own to sleep on her tummy?

    Rylee has been a tummy sleeper since about 2 months. At first it was very scary but she would not sleep otherwise. Now i am more comfortable since she has perfect head control and usually will be loud if she is uncomfortable. She still does not roll. She sleeps right next to me in the bassinet so i wake up from any small sound she makes. i know this is highly frowned upon but i think everyone should do what works best for them. Plus my mom is the one who told me to do this since she was such a bad sleeper in the beginning. She did it with me and my sister and my niece and we all turned out OK.

    I don't ever put him on his tummy except for supervised tummy time, but he's gotten to the point now where he can roll over to his tummy or his side, and there is nothing I can really do about that while we're all sleeping.  So that is the compromise I feel good about in my mind.

    Note that my entire generation (I'm 35) was put on tummy to sleep.

    Eli has been a side sleeper since somewhere around 6 weeks old and only this week has he ever slept on his tummy. He's done it twice for naps. So far at night if he rolls onto his tummy he completely freaks out and one of us has to go in his room roll him back to his side and hope he goes back to sleep on his own. MOTN feedings have become a little longer due to pretty having to make sure he is all the way asleep before putting him in his crib, otherwise he tends to roll to his tummy. Because Eli can roll from his tummy to his back, I wouldn't be so worried if he did decide sleeping on his tummy at night wasn't so bad.

    I used to let R nap on his tummy because otherwise he wouldn't sleep more than 20 minutes at a time. After I did more reading about SIDS, I decided not to anymore because I got too scared. He went back to taking ridiculously short naps, but over time he has adjusted and is sleeping better on his back. He always slept on his back at night. It's scary, but it's also hard to deal with your child not sleeping enough and being a horrible grumpy mess, so I really sympathize.

    My DD has just this past week started rolling from back to front. She can also do the opposite and now will sleep on her side. I try to move her to her back and it's like she gets mad and will fling her arm and leg back over. Very dramatic.. Lol. It does worry me but I check on her and she still sleeps in the pnp in our room. I have noticed though that she gets mad on her tummy when she's asleep and will cry and ill turn her back over. She has pretty good neck control also.
