Babies on the larger side

My DS is 7 months and at his 6 month visit was 22lbs and 29inch long. Our Pedi told us that with bigger babies it takes them longer to hit certain mile stones because they have more to hold up or balance. Anyone else experiencing this?

Re: Babies on the larger side

  • P.S. How do I get my pregnacy ticker off? I've tried numerous times and it's still there.

  • As for the ticker I went back to the post "Here we go again" and theres a picture showing how to do it, it's a couple pages back, it took me a couple of tries but it finally worked, DS was 19.4lbs and 27.5" at his 6 month appt. I've heard that it can take them longer, but truly DS has hit most of his milestones early on, so I think it all depends, theres such a wide range for milestones now, and now because of the "back to sleep" campaign babies are hitting milestones later and later. My best friend's DD is 2 weeks older than DS and 4 lbs lighter, she starting sitting up on her own a week before DS did, but he started crawling before her. lol You just never know.

  • DD was 21lbs 13oz and just under 27.8 inches long at 5.5 months.  I dont know what she is currently, but we have a Dr appt in a week and a bit.

I havent noticed DD hitting any milestones later at all.  She was sitting up at 4.5 months and rolling really early too.  My Dr didnt mention anything like that at all to me and I certainly have not experienced any of that.

DD is almost 23 lbs and 27 inches long. She was a really late roller (though she was this close so many times!) and at her 4 month appointment the pedi did mention not to be concerned as she had "a lot of weight to move!". However, since then she's been hitting her milestones pretty well. She sat up by 5 months, is now getting up on all fours and rocking. No crawling yet but from everything I've read that's very normal. I think it really just depends on the baby. Milestones are so different for every child.

  • Chris is 20 lbs, 28 1/4" at 6 months and from what others have told me he's reached his milestones a little early. Not sure if we have development classes to thank for that. Right now he's balancing on all fours to prepare to crawl but hasn't taken that first crawl yet...he's still army crawling.

BTW - he's in the 95 percentile for height and 85 percentile for weight.

  • My DD's pedi mentioned it being harder to move that extra weight around at her 4mnth appt. She started sitting up just after 4mnths, was rolling from belly to back early on but just started rolling back to belly at 6mnths. She isn't getting up on all 4's to crawl, but is moving around like an inch worm. But her pedi said crawling wasn't really a milestone to hit by a certain age. My DD rather stand. My friends 15mnth old still isn't walking and his pedi told her its because he's a bigger boy and has a large head. Which scares me since my DDs head is the size of an 18mnths old :-/ she's 21.8lbs at 6mnths.

  • 22lbs and 27inches at 6 months. He finally rolled back to belly at 6 months 1 week. He's been sitting up for a few weeks but still topples over at times. He can't pull himself into a sitting position, nor can he get his legs under him. I'm not worried, he will get there in his own time.

  • LO was also 22 pounds and 29 inches at his 6 month checkup. His dr wasn't concerned. He's hit most of his milestones and now at 7 months exactly he started to crawl. Pedi said "more than 97% of babies his age were smaller and lighter" than he was. She wasn't concerned about it. LO seems to be on track for his milestones. But he does have a hard time pushing himself into a sitting position. I think that's because of his size.
  • LO was 21lbs ish, 27in at 6 months. She has had absolutely no trouble hitting milestones. She sits up on her own, rolls front to back and back to front, can pull herself up to stand, scoots her way around any room, and I saw her crawl today. She'll be 7 months on the 21st. So I don't believe that just because babies are bigger, they'll hit milestones later. It all depends on the babies. All babies are different and will hot milestones at different times.

  • My LO is a little over average and isn't crawling yet or working on it or barely even able to balance sitting up because of his big ol head. I can see that being a plausible statement. Maybe not for all babies, just like everything else.
