Six weeks old and fussy

Do babies have a growth spurt at six weeks? My LO has been so incredibly fussy and eats like crazy, even more than before. I was at my wits end yesterday and I hope she isn't a bear again today. Any thoughts are appreciated, thank you!

Thank you, I thought I was going to go crazy. At least now I know the reason!

  • Yes!!! My baby was so fussy at 6 weeks.
  • My LO wasn't particularly fussy but she barely slept and was constantly eating. By constantly I mean I barely got out if my nursing chair and thought I wasn't producing enough BM but we got through that stage and its been pretty smooth sailing since.

Yes I have noticed that she isn't sleeping a lot during the day and yes I feel like all she does is nurse, I can't get anything else done. Thank you all for your input, I feel much better!

  • my little guy went thru that for a couple days now he is 2 months and not fussy anymore
  • Same here! Some bumpies on another thread were talking about "The Wonder Weeks," a book on development. Week 6 is listed as a major developmental week as they are becoming more aware of their surroundings and stimuli, so to expect increased fussiness and the need to cuddle and nurse. I think I'm going to get the book, at least we will know when to expect another growth spurt instead of worrying if something's wrong.

I've got the wonder weeks book and this is exactly what I was thinking - going through his first 'leap'. It's a very interesting book and I'm looking forward to seek how it matches up with my LO fussy periods and development.

FYI, they have a great wonder weeks app that is really well organized and just as informative as the book. It's only $1.99 rather than $20something for the book.

  • Yes! Graham was a mess around 6 weeks. Very fussy, nursing sessions were difficult, etc. It passed after a couple of days.
