Sippy Cup BF

My LO would never take a bottle and I EBF.

My question is, can I give my LO BM in a sippy cup once she is ready?

Did any of your LO have issues taking their milk from another source other than your breast? Or we're they okay as long as they got it? Hoping for some longer stretches of free time to get to go to the gym, etc?

When did you introduce the sippy cup? How long did it take them to "get it?"

TIA

  • My DS wont take a bottle.
We tried breastmilk in sippy cups at 4 and 5 months and DS was not having it. I also tried a little water just to test and he loved that. I know some babies just don't want breastmilk from anywhere but the source. Sigh... He just turned 6 months so maybe I will try again. Even with milk I literally just pumped he makes a yucky face.

  • DD has only taken a bottle a few times, and only once did she actually seem satisfied. If we go out and I know nursing won't work I put bm in a sippy before we leave. I have no issue nursing in public, but she won't sit still and i spray and flash all over.

  • DS finally started taking a bottle he only likes the breast. But we introduced the sippy at 4 months he's now 6 and will drink from it I'm only putting water in it since I pretty much ebf except for maybe a bottle a week.

  • I gave DD a straw cup at like 6.5 months old but not often. She kind of gets it.
  • DD would never take a bottle either. Right when she turned 4 months we started with the avent bottle to 1rst cup trainer and I finally got her to drink out of that after a couple of times. I think she liked it cause it is probably similar to drinking from the breast because of the way it is shaped.

At 5-6 months we switched to the playtex little grippers with the straw and she drinks from those great now.

DD takes her bottle like a champ, although she went through a phase where she wanted nothing but me. I actually had to leave in order for FIL to get her to take a bottle (I was going back to work, he needed practice). But, she's been doing great with a sippy and even better with a straw cup since about 4 months. She doesn't seem to get as much out of the sippy as she likes, but she loves her straw cup, so I definitely recommend giving it a shot.

ETA: Are you averse to giving her a bottle, or has she just not taken to one? If you're the one trying to give it to her, that could be why she's fussy about it. That's how DD was, and like I said, if I was anywhere nearby, there was no way she was taking a bottle. Even now at 8 mos she's not crazy about it.
