Re: GTKY Tuesday!

  • Cloth or Disposable? Why? If you had a do-over, would you rethink your decision?
Disposable because of convenience and honestly, cloth never crossed my mind as something I would do. I wouldn't rethink it at all.

Brand/Style? What made you choose it?
Huggies for us. It's a brand I've always used (years of babysitting and always a baby in my family) so it was a no brainer.

    Where did/do you purchase them?
Usually we go to Sam's but if I need a quick pack for daycare or as backup I go to Target.

Cloth Mamas: what do you put dirty dipes in before you wash?
Disposable Mamas: how do you dispose of dirty dipes (genie, scented bags, trash can, etc)?
We were using a genie, but it got annoying to change out the bag so we just use the trash can. If it's a really stinky one, I'll break out the scented bags that I keep in the diaper bag.

  • 1. Disposable: I would have considered cloth with a singleton, but the mass amount of diapers with two was just too much for me to feel comfortable with cloth.

    2. Pampers Cruisers during the day/ Huggies Overnights: Those brands just seem to fit the best. Huggies and Luvs always leaked during the day, and Pampers leaked at night.

    3. We buy bulk from Ama.zon (Mom membership).

    4. We have a changing station on each floor with a Diaper Genie next to each table.

Cloth or Disposable? Why? If you had a do-over, would you rethink your decision?  Disposable.  I considered cloth, but DH wasn't completely on board and I thought daycare might be difficult with them.  No, I wouldn't rethink my decision - disposables are easy.

Brand/Style? What made you choose it?  We registered for Pampers and used them in the hospital.  Since we had no problem with them, we never changed.  I tried Huggies (received as a gift) and he leaked all the time so we didn't even finish the pack.  We used Swaddlers up to size 3 and now Baby Dry.

Where did/do you purchase them?  I had BRU gift cards and used them for diapers for probably the first 6 months.  Now, I buy them wherever I have a coupon or there is a sale.

Disposable Mamas: how do you dispose of dirty dipes (genie, scented bags, trash can, etc)?  We do not have a diaper genie or special garbage can.  Stinky diapers go in a ziplock and into the trash.

  • Cloth or Disposable? Why? If you had a do-over, would you rethink your decision?
We do both.  When I am home with J I use cloth (mostly weekends).  DH likes the cloth but is scared of them still.  LOL!  Most all my CD are OS snaps.  I'm looking into velcro styles and maybe he will get on board fully.  However, getting my MIL onboard is going to be a challenge.  I may not push it with her since she watches him for us while we both work.  And since she is a young 71 I do try to make things as easier for her as possible.

Brand/Style? What made you choose it?
Our CD are a variety of Happy Flute and Sunbaby.  I buy cheapie CD's.  I can't wrap my ahead around paying $20+ for a CD.

Our sposies are Pampers during the day (I am in Cincinnati and tend to be a P&G girl).  We have even been to do a diaper panel with them where I got free diapers for 2 weeks and a $70 prepaid Visa card.  Hopefully in the future we get to do a few more.

We have had to start using Huggies night time diapers this week.   J started waking up with wet jammies so we had to find a solution.  We couldn't find a "true" night time diaper so we went with what was available which was Huggies.  He only sleeps on average 10 hours at night but for some reason the pampers weren't getting the job done. Maybe it's because he's sleeping on his tummy more and more.

    Where did/do you purchase them?
All of my CD's have been purchased through co-ops or on sell/swap pages.  We either buy our pampers from BRU or Amazon.  They have been the cheapest per diaper that we have found when they have coupons or specials.  We stocked up when I was pg.

Cloth Mamas: what do you put dirty dipes in before you wash?
A wet bag.  I'm starting to search for a cheap pail though.  Everyone says to get just a plastic trash can with a lid.

Disposable Mamas: how do you dispose of dirty dipes (genie, scented bags, trash can, etc)?  We have the Arm & Hammer pail at home and use it religously.  While we are out and about we use either the Arm & Hammer travel disposable bags or buy a cheap roll of the smallest sized scented trash bags.

  • We use cloth! And so far I love it.

I have a mix of bumkins, BG, Kawaii, gro-via, and a pair of swaddle bees. I think my fave is the Kawaii or bumkins (unless J poops). I chose bumkins because they are super cute and the brand is owned locally. BG I registered for at BBB, Kawaii from a big sale and they were cheap, the gro-via bc my cousin loves them, and the swaddle bees (least fav) because I got a tip on the CD board about a super sale.

Purchased from a mix of local CD store, Internet and BBB.

I store dirties in a wet bag.

We had to use disposables on our trip. Ugh, I hate the way they smell when wet.  I was happy to get home and back in cloth.

  • Cloth or Disposable? Why? If you had a do-over, would you rethink your decision? Disposable! I toyed around with the idea of cloth, but when I found out we were having twins, I just knew cloth diapers would become overwhelming very quickly! We do want one more in another year or two, and with just one, I may try out cloth diapering, but I've been happy with our choice

Brand/Style? What made you choose it? Pampers Swaddlers, Sensitive.  I asked around with friends who had kids already and this was the most highly recommended.

Where did/do you purchase them? Either BRU of Target... whichever is more convenient to stop at... haha!

Disposable Mamas: how do you dispose of dirty dipes (genie, scented bags, trash can, etc)? At home we have a diaper genie, but if I'm out, I just toss them in the trash.  I'm still EBF, so they're not too smelly yet, but once the girls can start with solid, I'll keep some of the scented baggies in my diaper bag for when I'm out!

To those who have mastered the art of potty training - give us your BEST piece of advice: Can't really contribute to this yet, so I'll be reading other's advice!

I inherited a HUGE diaper cake of Size 1 Luvs. I was a little apprehensive about them because I do think the smell is really pungent. However, they are one of the only two brands DD has not leaked out of!!! I was exteremely impressed :)

  • - Disposable Diapers. I love the idea of cloth diapers in theory, but in reality I've already been overwhelmed with everything as is, I don't think I could handle adding cloth diapering to the mix.

     - Pamper or Target Up and Up - I love Pampers but will only buy them with a coupon. I have been really pleased with Target brand - and they are much cheaper. I made it almost 12 weeks without having to buy a case of diapers - and then bought Huggies. We had been given a diaper cake of Hugies - used it early on with no isses - well once DD got a little bigger, Huggies was an epic fail. I only used half of the case and gave the rest to my hairdresser.

    - I'll buy them at BJ's when I have the coupons..... Otherwise Target, or wherever there is a sale.

-Disposing - we have a diaper genie and we both hate it. It's finicky. I will probably replace it with a covered garbage can in the near future.

Cloth or Disposable? Why? If you had a do-over, would you rethink your decision? Disposable.  I don't think I really considered cloth, but we moved overseas when DD1 was 5 weeks old and I had too much on my plate.  4 years later, we are still in disposables with DD3 and it works for us.

Brand/Style? What made you choose it? Pampers Swaddlers, then Cruisers (bigger)

Where did/do you purchase them? Target IN BULK when there is a gift card offer (I bought 4 boxes yesterday).  Also, Target will sometimes have them on clearance.  Once, I bought 9 boxes and barely got them in my SUV.

Cloth Mamas: what do you put dirty dipes in before you wash?
Disposable Mamas: how do you dispose of dirty dipes (genie, scented bags, trash can, etc)? We used to have two diaper genies - 1 on each floor - but now with just 1 in diapers, we reuse a Target or grocery bag - load it up each day and toss it in the trash.  DDs go to daycare, so there aren't too many to dispose of each day.

To those who have mastered the art of potty training - give us your BEST piece of advice:  at some point, you may have to be firm.  DD3 was potty trained during the day, but would not poop in a diaper.  For 13 months, we would put on a diaper at night and nap time because she would wait to poop.  One day, I got annoyed when she was 3.5 and asking for a diaper so she could poop, and I snapped and told her NO MORE DIAPERS.  She was miserable for 5 days and then finally went in the potty and has been pooping like a champ.  DD2 watches her and actually poops on command.  I'll say "hey, today is a poo poo day" and she'll sit there and go.  LOL.

Disposable: I tried to get DH on the cloth train, but he just made a face when I told him how to deal with the poo, LOL

Brand/Style? What made you choose it?

Pampers Swaddlers. We've tried other brands (and different kinds from Pampers) and just don't like them for whatever reason (don't fit well, leakage issues, the tabs are weird, LOL) I was so happy when I realized they come in up to size 5!

    Where did/do you purchase them?

Usually Target, but we keep meaning to sign up for Amazon Prime/Mom

  • 1. Disposable: I would have considered if there was a diaper service here.

     2. We started off with Pampers swaddlers, but LO would have up the back blow-outs all the time. Huggies have an elastic band on the back and that has helped us so we now use Huggies Snug and Dry during the day, and Huggies Overnights at night.

    3. We buy at the commissary on base, or Target. I NEVER buy diapers without a coupon.

    4. We have a Diaper Genie.

Disposable.  Having a newborn is hard enough without throwing washing poopy diapers into the mix. Also, when they get a little older, the poops get really, really gross.  I will make other sacrifices to do my part, but using cloth diapers is not one of them.

I love LUVS.  The only bummer part is that they don't have overnight diapers so we use pampers (I think) for the overnight diapers.  I chose LUVS because they seemed to work the best.

    I buy them at Wal-Mart.

  • Cloth or Disposable? Why? If you had a do-over, would you rethink your decision?

Disposable all the way. I never had any thought of using cloth. Although, after having a baby I know what landfills are full of!! Poopy diapers for sure.

Brand/Style? What made you choose it?
Huggins Snug and Dry. We tried every brand and for some reason DS peed out of every other brand.

    Where did/do you purchase them?

    Costco!!

Disposable Mamas: how do you dispose of dirty dipes (genie, scented bags, trash can, etc)?

Diaper Genie, although it didnt seem to work as well towards the end if our diaper days.

To those who have mastered the art of potty training - give us your BEST piece of advice:

Well we have not mastered the art quite yet but we're doing a pretty good job.
My advice is this: if you have a toddler who can communicate and isn't afraid to sit on the potty around 2, start. But the key is to go all out, absolutely no pull ups and never turn back!!! I made a huge deal about starting potty training and told DS what day we were going to start, let him pick out big boy undies and started. I took off his diaper threw it in the trash and told him no more diapers only big boy undies. They will have accidents and a lot of them but they don't like being wet and undies allow them to feel that.

  • Cloth or Disposable? Why? If you had a do-over, would you rethink your decision?
Did cloth with my daughter for awhile then got sick of doing the extra laundry and switched to disposables.  Been using those ever since.

Brand/Style? What made you choose it?

Pampers because I've never had an issue with leaking or blow outs.

    Where did/do you purchase them?

    Usually Target.

Cloth Mamas: what do you put dirty dipes in before you wash?
Disposable Mamas: how do you dispose of dirty dipes (genie, scented bags, trash can, etc)?

    The kitchen garbage can.

KIDDING.  We have a diaper genie.

To those who have mastered the art of potty training - give us your BEST piece of advice:

I'm no pro in this area but what I've learned so far is to BE PATIENT.  Even when you want to scream, "REALLY?  YOU JUST SH!T IN YOUR PANTS AND DIDN'T TELL ME YOU HAD TO GO AGAIN??" refrain from doing so.  The more you get frustrated the more they get frustrated.

  • Cloth or Disposable? Why? If you had a do-over, would you rethink your decision? Disposable, DH and I both have a really strong gag reflexes so we figured we could never dump and wash cloth ones. The quicker you can close it up and get rid of it the better!

Brand/Style? What made you choose it? We did Pampers in the beginning but when they ran out we switched to Luvs. they work well for us and the savings is great.

Where did/do you purchase them? I buy them at BJs wholesale club, they have coupons and a great price for the big boxes.

Cloth Mamas: what do you put dirty dipes in before you wash?
Disposable Mamas: how do you dispose of dirty dipes (genie, scented bags, trash can, etc)? We have a Costco diaper pail and vanilla scented trash bags. We empty the can twice a week to cut down on the stink too.

  • Cloth or Disposable? Why? If you had a do-over, would you rethink your decision?
Disposable. I wouldn't rethink it - it's very convenient and less work for me.

Brand/Style? What made you choose it?
I'm a Pampers fan. Have some huggies we were given and I don't hate them. I just found Pampers on sale so have stuck with them. A friend of mine has horrible luck with Huggies leaking so I steer clear of buying them.

    Where did/do you purchase them?
I went into CVS one day and they had a box or 108ish diapers for like $20. They had marked them incorrectly. I bought allllllll they had. :)

Disposable Mamas: how do you dispose of dirty dipes (genie, scented bags, trash can, etc)?
    We have a Diaper Genie.

To those who have mastered the art of potty training - give us your BEST piece of advice:
    1) We do part-time cloth. Well, mostly cloth except for overnights, and if we're out for several hours during the day.  I don't really love it but since I've invested in the CDs, I might as well use them.  I opted for CDs because of its environmental benefits, but gosh, it's just so much work (ie, laundry)!

If I were to re-do this, I would have skipped the newborn cloth diapers. I was so overwhelmed with taking care of the baby - so exhausted every day that doing CD laundry every other day was just not possible.  Also, M would scream at every diaper change, so trying to fasten the prefolds with snappi was awful.

    2) For disposables, we use Pampers. Now M is in size 3 BabyDry
For CDs, we use mostly BG 3.0s (I bought them used). They're fine in terms of no leaking, but they are bulky and I feel like I"m always stuffing the pockets.

    3) Disposables - just at a grocery store. Prob not the cheapest but it takes 2 months for us to go through a box of 120s.  CDs- Craigslist

    4) CDs go into wet bag.  disposables go into regular plastic bag (like the ones from grocery store; we have 2 bags of dipes trash per week)

  • We use cloth exclusively and have since Lila came home from the hospital. We use cloth for environmental and health reasons. An added bonus is that the patterns and colors are so darned cute and a fluffy butt is irresistible. During the day we use Blueberry, BabyKicks, Apple Cheeks and a few WAHM brands. For ON we like Bububebe, Twinkie Tush or Sproutling Love with either Wild Coconut Wear or MyEcobaby wool. I also use cloth wipes that go in the laundry with the dirty dipes. I wash diapers every other day and store them in a wet bag. Honestly, diaper laundry is far simpler than I imagined.

  • Cloth or Disposable? Why? If you had a do-over, would you rethink your decision? DISPOSABLE JUST BECAUSE I FELT IT WAS EASIER. THOUGHT ABOUT CLOTH FOR THE NEXT ONE THOUGH TO SAVE SOME MONEY. :)

Brand/Style? What made you choose it? HUGGIES BECAUSE MY SIL RECOMMENDED THEM. HAD USED PAMPERS IN THE NICU AND DIDNT LIKE THE FIT

Where did/do you purchase them? I GET A GREAT DEAL AT COSTCO WHEN THERE COUPONS COME OUT.

Cloth Mamas: what do you put dirty dipes in before you wash?
Disposable Mamas: how do you dispose of dirty dipes (genie, scented bags, trash can, etc)? TRASH CAN. I HATED THE DIAPER GENIE. LOL

To those who have mastered the art of potty training - give us your BEST piece of advice: I HAVENT QUITE MASTERED PT BUT MY ADVICE WOULD BE TO EXPOSE THEM TO THE POTTY EARLY ON A LOW KEY LEVEL SO THAT THEY WILL BE USED TO IT BEFORE THE REAL TRAINING BEGINS. OH AND LET THEM RUN NAKEY!!! :)

  • Cloth or Disposable? Why? If you had a do-over, would you rethink your decision?
Disposable for all 3.  Considered trying cloth, but in the end I stuck with what I knew
Brand/Style? What made you choose it?
DS started off in pamphlets swaddled, then made the switch to Target brand when he was graduating to cruisers.  Both dds were in Target brand from the beginning!

Where did/do you purchase them?  Target

Cloth Mamas: what do you put dirty dipes in before you wash?
Disposable Mamas: how do you dispose of dirty dipes (genie, scented bags, trash can, etc)?
With DS and DD1, we used a diaper champ.  With DD2, our champ was nasty and they no longer make that style, so we have been using a basic lidded trash can and taking the bags out frequently.  Working so far!
To those who have mastered the art of potty training - give us your BEST piece of advice:
Wait until they are ready.  DS was3, and we had practiced sitting on the potty for months before.  He had about 4 accidents the first 2 days, then never again.  DD1 told me when she wanted to wear her undies - DD2 was a month old, so I was in no hurry to potty train her, but she put on her undies, had one accident the first week, and has been pretty much fine since!  Also - same goes for potty training as all other aspects of parenthood - what works for one kid may not work for another!
