First appointment not until 9 weeks?...

I keep seeing people posting about their first appointments around 5 or 6 weeks! My dr. doesn't schedule until 8-10 weeks. Anyone else have to wait that long? The wait is killing me!! Should I go in and get a blood test at least to confirm pregnancy?

Re: First appointment not until 9 weeks?...

  • Mine won't see me until 12 weeks (minus a consultation and the ordering of bloodwork since my last was a mc). I appreciate the hands off approach, but I know it doesn't work for everyone.

  • Usually unless you make a case for not knowing how far along you are most docs wait until 8-10 weeks. It's hell waiting!

  • I just found out I am pregnant today a d I can't get in until 8 weeks :)
  • My apt isn't until 9 weeks even with a 4 m/c hx. Just trying to relaxe because there isn't anything that could be done to stop it anyway.
  • My appt isn't until week 8 also. I'm so so on pins and needles with all this waiting.
  • Mine isn't until 11 weeks. I don't mind though not much they are gonna tell me that I don't already know :)
  • Typical. Went in to my first dr appt just for another pap and blood work (first app is nothing) thinking I was 8 weeks. Then, had my first us yesterday thinking I was 9 weeks only to find out I'm only 7 weeks.
  • Looks like my HMO won't schedule me for an OB appointment until 8 weeks. But they don't say that, they just give you the run-around for so long that the earliest possible time you could get in is 8 weeks.
I'm super frustrated by it, actually. I know there's not much they can see this early, but I'd like to be able to talk to someone to make sure I'm doing things right - vitamins, medications, etc. The internet is a great place to find info, but sometimes I'd like to get medical advice from an actual doctor. :P

  • My doctor does bloodwork to confirm and then an early u/s for dating. I don't think 9 weeks sounds unreasonable though. If you want bloodwork or an earlier u/s you can probably just request it.
