I'm essentially looking for those who live in the Lake County area and have used Dr. Wendell J. Courtney as an OB. I was curious if he performs elective c-sections,
I'm 27, healthy, and have one child.
Since it'll probably come up, I feel that I have valid, personal reasons for wanting a c-section this time around. I had a vaginal delivery eight years ago that was very traumatic. I had preeclampsia and was rushed to the hospital for induction where I was immediately started on mag. sulfate and Pitocin. Aside from that, big babies run in my family (I was almost 11lbs at birth, even though I'm not large/overweight as an adult) and they felt that my baby would be big as well. She ended up being 8.2 at about 39 wks, but I still needed a large episiotomy (which I don't feel healed well). I was threatened with a c-section every 10 minutes while in the delivery process, but was strongly against it (for myself) because I really wanted to experience a natural birth. While I completely understand that all pregnancies and deliveries are different, I would be much more comfortable doing it on my own terms this time around. I also am deathly afraid of having an EMERGENCY c-section because I have a fear of general anesthesia.
Anyway, this baby was a complete surprise (watch out for Ortho-Cyclen BC pills) and I was sure I didn't want any more children. So, I'd like to have a tubal ligation while they're in there (so-to-speak haha).
So, does anyone know if Dr. Courtney (Leesburg FL) will perform a c-section based on bad experiences and personal preference? Everyone says he's a little knife-happy, so I'm curious.
I have Medicaid for pregnant women. I'm a nurse for a home health care agency here in central FL. I technically don't qualify based on my income (I make approx. $3500/mo) for the Medicaid, but I was accepted based on the fact that I JUST switched jobs and don't yet qualify for benefits. I'm not married so they're not taking my fiance's income into account, either. Just want y'all to know that I'm not living off the state here and I'd be totally willing to pay the extra cost of an elective cesarean out of pocket.
Re: Elective cesarean in central FL? Doctor Courtney?
I had to have a c section because DD was breech. I too was on health insurance through work and medicaid and what my insurance didn't cover medicaid did.
I had pre eclampsia as well and was on hospital bed rest for 4 weeks! So the bill was a lot high!
I'm sure with wanting the tubal ligation your doc will may do the c section so you don't have to go through birth then a separate surgery! That's how I would suggest it I guess, if I was the doctor- haha.
But just talk to her. I live in FL but didn't go to her
