Working Moms

Children's books about Mommy working

I am a teacher, and I returned to work when DD was 12 weeks old. The last two summers DD was 8 months and 20 months when I returned to work. I am her primary care giver in the summer. While I work she is cared for by either DH or grandparents. I know that when I go back to work next week she will totally know and be affected this time. I will be taking her into to see my classroom (although she has been there before) to remind her where I am when I leave.
Does anyone know of any children's book I can read to DD about Mommy going to work? She seems to adjust better if we can read something and talk about it. I was just wondering if anyone had recommendations. Thanks.

Re: Children's books about Mommy working

  • While not strictly a book about working moms, I was thrilled that the book "I Love You All the Time" includes a bit about a mother at work. The mama bear is sitting at her desk job, typing on the computer and talking on the phone. The line is something like, "I love you even when I work all day." It's pretty refreshing to see that in a children's book. I always point out to DD that it's just like her mommy!

  • Thank you very much for the ideas! Some of them I really liked, I could not buy from amazon. Booo. Most of the books seem to have the child going to preschool or somewhere. In DD's case she is home with DH or grandparents. Thank you for the suggestions. My BFF is a elementary reading teacher and she wrote DD a book for another topic I could not find a book for. I might have her write one for this took.

  • I'm a teacher and I've used "The Kissing Hand" by Audrey Penn to help with students experiencing separation anxiety. It's a really nice book. Good luck :)

I do love that one. My mom got if for me when I went away to college. She then bought one for DD when she was born!
