Pregnant after 35

spotting early in pregnancy?

Hi ladies. I used to use this board when I was pg with my first 8 years ago. A few years after I had ds ex-h and I tried to get pg, were successful, but I had an early miscarriage.  I am now remarried and pg with my second - 4w3d. I got my first positive pg test last Wednesday.

Yesterday, I had a little brown spot when I wiped in the morning after I went to the restroom. I only noticed it because I was looking for it. I called the doc because I am paranoid after having a miscarriage 4 years ago. They had me come in, take a pg test which was positive. The Nurse Practitioner did an exam and said she saw no signs of spotting and to just be on pelvic rest until my appt on the 29th. It was way too early to do an u/s, so she sent me to get my betas yesterday and tomorrow. I get those results on Friday.

The spotting lasted all of that trip to the restroom and another after I had an exam. Yesterday I had no cramping. Today I have no more spotting at all, but a dull ache in my lower abdomen. I sometimes get this the day before my period, sometimes not. Because I have had a miscarriage before I am so nervous. I know both the light brown spotting and the mild cramping can be normal for this point in a pregnancy, but I just don't remember any of this with ds. Anyone have any good reassuring stories about this happening to them and all is ok?

Re: spotting early in pregnancy?

  • Well, I'm only 9 weeks with my first, but I had brown spotting the day I got my first positive test. The nurse said it was very normal. Best of luck to you!

  • I had some of that around 6 weeks for a few days straight, never had it with first 2 pregnancies, and my OB said it was most likely implantation bleeding, as long as it's not heavy bright red with serious cramping. Glad you called your dr and they are monitoring you!
I know it's hard not to worry. Just stay away from "Dr Google".

Congrats and best wishes to you!

  • I spotted brown, pink and red during my entire first pregnancy and he is now a heathly 5 year old. It is super stressful but not unheard of. It is important to keep in contact with your dr so hey can monitor it. Good luck!
