  They encourage it AND he sees the older kids doing it.

  Bc my SIL is SAH and my niece only started waving at like 11 mos bc E started at like 6 mos

  My LO is nonclapper and he goes to DC PT.  He can do a rudimentary wave and he just started to point.  But those are things that we've been encouraging - we haven't really clapped too much w him.  He does bang stuff together though.

  DS doesn't go to daycare.  We clap A LOT but he still doesn't do it.  He doesn't wave either, even though I'll move his arm everytime we do "bye bye".

  FWIW, our friends' daughter (the 7.5 month old who claps) doesn't go to daycare either.

  DS doesn't wave or clap. I try and remember to do these around him but it isn't something I really think about. DS isn't in daycare and isn't around other kids often so I don't know when he'll pick these up.

  L waves on occasion but doesn't clap. His PT thinks he might be trying to by bringing his right hand to his left instead of bringing both together. Also no pointing.

  She doesnt go to daycare but she waves, claps, points and does a come here/more thing atleast that is how I interpret it (like and upside down wave) she does it when she wants the dog to come to her or she wants me to give her more food.

  DS2 is 10.5 months and doesn't clap. He sort of waves, gives high 5s, points, and bangs toys together. When I try to get him to clap, he won't open his fists, but I play pat-a-cake with him and he will open his fists for that.

  Stella clapped for the first time last week, twice, but hasn't done it since.  We've been clapping at her and doing it for her for weeks, but she's not interested.  She adamantly refuses to wave on her own, but I make her wave every day when we leave daycare.

  At her 9 mo appt her doctor asked if she was clapping or pointing. I had no idea these were skills we were supposed to be working on. I've started encouraging her to clap but she fights my hands hen I try to get her to do it so I don't really enjoy doing it. She will put her hands on my hands when I clap though.
