Anyone else's LO...?

DS is back to disliking tummy time. Still doesn't really roll. He did from his tummy early on, but not too much since. He mostly just flails his arms out now, and cries. He can get to his side from his back. He can sit up unassisted a bit pretty well now, but his tolerance for that is pretty low too. What he does like is standing! Help him balance, and he'll just keep standing, reaching for things, watching everything, and overall being happy as a clam. I feel like at this rate, he's going to skip everything, and just get up and walk one day. Anyone else? I'm not worried, as he's still hitting milestones and will develop at his own rate. It just seems like there are quite a few roly polies here.

Re: Anyone else's LO...?

  • LO rolls automatically from back to tummy since she figured that out at around 3-4 months. Has no interested in getting back to her back from her belly-she will however hang out on her belly for a little bit now that she's started to become a little more mobile.

She went through a period there where she was less tolerant of tummy time. She's started creeping a bit, so now that she's figured out how to maneuver her body I think she's a lot happier to hang out there.  He's probably getting frustrated because he wants to move but can't (that;s what she does).  keep having him do a little tummy time and when he's able to maneuver more he'll probably be more tolerant.

  • Tummy time is super dependent on LOs mood! Sometimes he'll hang out other times he flails and cries. Loves standing with help and loves jumping. He just got the hang of sitting for a bit with his arms holding him up.
  • Jake's not too fond of tummy time. He rolls eadily from back to tummy, then screams bloody murder after about five minutes.

  • Sometimes when ds isnt happy doing tummy time on the floor I can put him in his crib while I run to bathroom or check laundry or eat and I find he is quite content to play there on his tummy. Not sure if it is because he can lift his head and see out the windows and that entertains him or if its the softer surface or what. Othertimes ds is happy to play on his tummy on the floor for an hour.

  • My niece never liked tummy time, would get so red in the face and cry and cry. She was an earlier sitter though and did that before she could roll over. Then she was walking at 1. All babies are different.

This will probably be DS. He seems to be liking sitting more the past day or so. If he's sitting on my legs when we're on the floor, he can get himself to a standing position.
  • My DD is exactly the same as you said! She's only rolled about a dozen times. It's like she knows how, she just doesn't want to do it. She loves to stand. Sometimes she tolerates tummy time but usually only about 3 min and she puts her face down on the blanket and flails. I think it's like vpgirl said, she wants to move but can't figure out how so she gets frustrated. Every baby develops differently. Some babies always hate tummy time and scoot around on their butt Instead of crawling. They will figure out their own way no matter what.
  • Someone in the FB group I'm in suggested naked tummy time to help them roll and it worked for a bunch of us. My LO hadn't rolled yet, as soon as I did naked tummy time she rolled within 5 minutes. She also just seems to like it more and will tolerate it longer.

  • Naked Tummy time works best for us as well.

  • I always do naked tummy time every night. We do lotion as part of our bedtime routine so she lays on her tummy naked while I put the lotion on her back. She just recently started trying to roll as soon as I put her on her tummy for lotion.
  • Naked tummy time seems like she can move her legs/hips more easily :)
