XP: Crawling

Hey everyone, this is cross posted in the 6-9month board, but I wanted to get opinions from you gals as well.  Just wondering if and when your LO's started crawling.  My little man still isn't. He will roll to his belly and then kind of rotate around in a circle, and pull himself from side to side using his arms and midsection. He then gets frustrated, and starts to whine and eventually cry until we sit him back up on his butt.  I am not too concerned.  We struggled with tummy time in the beginning because he had torticollis and had to go to PT weekly, so I assumed he may be a little behind with crawling.  Just wondering when your babes started to be on the move, and if there was anything you did to get them going.

TIA

Laura

Re: XP: Crawling

  • DS has been army crawling and scooting for a little while. Just today he started alternating legs and doing real crawling. Still not very graceful though. All babies are different and some even skip crawling altogether.

  • We aren't anywhere near crawling. DS just figured out how to roll onto his belly a week ago. Like your little one he spins in circles and can pull or push himself with his arms or just roll to his stuff. He has made zero attempts at getting onto his knees. I am in no way concerned.

  • DD started Army crawling at 5.5 months, hands & knees at 7 months. My friend's son is 5.5 months and already full on hands & knees crawling, he was particularly funny though because all he could do was scootch backwards and then all of the sudden he knew how to crawl!

There is definitely a range of normal & DD seems to be focusing on motor skills vs. verbal skills. There are people here that have babies who are saying mama/dada/gaga and DD just makes oohs & ahhs.
  • I think most babies crawl in some form in the 6 to 10 month range, so I think it's still on the early side for crawling. I've had to tell myself on several occasions not to use The Bump as my standard of what milestones my baby should be meeting.

  • DD is 7 months and not crawling... Not getting on knees and hands and not pulling herself up into her own sitting position... She is great with balance and sitting.. Each baby is different... Don't rush it! Lol I hear once they get mobile you wish they weren't!

This is us to plus she hasn't rolled back to belly yet either.... Just waiting.

  • DS just started army crawling last Wednesday, I already miss the days where he stayed where I put him. lol With all of his toys, bright colors, lights, sounds, he'd still rather go for my sandal, or try to get behind the end table to find that one cord. lol He's such a goob! :) But he honestly went from laying on his stomach "swimming" with his feet and hands in the air to suddenly propelling himself around the room in one day. lol Once they figure it out, they are gone!

  • DS had torticollis and was a little late on the rolling over part. After daily tummy time, and a few daily excercised it completely went away. Quickly after that he started scooting, and within about a week fo that he started crawling. He is 7 mos now.  I thought he was going to be delayed because it took him so long to roll over.  Every child is different. All three of mine have been :)
