Natural Birth

Intro

Hello everyone I have been lurking here for quite some time but though now would be a good time to say hello.

My name is Mary and I am due Dec. 23 with both my husbands and I first child. I really want to do a natural birth but I am feeling more and more overwhelmed with the lack of options as to how to proceed locally. The is no birthing centers in the province, I don't even think I get to choose my hospital (not that it makes a big deal because they are both operated the exact same way), there's no option for water birth and I don't even get to meet by OBGYN until Sept. 17th; so I don't know how pro natural birth she is. Plus even if she is pro-natural unless I am considered high risk I will have to use whichever doctor is on call the night/day I deliver.

I tend to have a lot of anxiety about doctors/hospital/medical procedures normally and I know that's contributing to my feels currently and I really want to do what's best for my child and see them health and safely into the world. However last night (when I started getting very overwhelmed again) he brought it back up and said if it would help me relax he would be willing to hire a doula. So I emailed the women who I though sounded the best from the dozen doulas in the area but I am waiting to hear back.

Sorry that went off on a bit of a rant, basically my point was to introduce myself and say I enjoy reading all of your posts and especially the natural birth stories. Thanks for reading.

  • Sorry for the typos, I accidently posted before proof reading and I don't know how to edit my posts since the new changes came in.

  • Welcome!  I am not sure where you are at but that sounds like a tough situation.  It can be stressful knowing that you may not have a certain provider during your L&D.  You may be surprised though and find that the on call OB is very supportive of natural birth (this happened in my situation).  It sounds like you are on the right path to having the birth you want by hiring a doula.  They are amazing and can be a huge help and comfort during labor.  I know it is hard but try to relax and stay positive about the situation!
  • Thank you, I am in Newfoundland Labrador, Canada
