Who is going back to work?

OK, today is my last day at home with the kiddos. I am a teacher and we go back tomorrow. I decided to just start the new year because Friday is 6 weeks anyway and I hate the thought of starting late and someone else starting the year for me. Its almost too much trouble. I am freaked out about getting everyone up and out the door. On top of not getting enough sleep oh and missing the kids. Sigh, who else is going or has gone back to work? How is it going?

Re: Who is going back to work?

  • I am going back Sept 2. We're also switching DD1 into a new daycare so that's an added stressor.

  • I'm going back in mid September. My mom will be watching DD on the days that DH and I both work, so I'm not worried about it at all. I'm going to miss being with my baby all day though!!

  • I'll be going to back to work the end of Sept. I've been avoiding thinking about how I'll feel leaving her at daycare or how it'll make me feel to not be with her all day. I'm sure it'll stress me out and I'll be super sad and question if I want to or not, but we aren't financially set up for me not to work. =(

  • DH is a teacher too and heads back on the 21st. He has a summer job but doesn't leave for that until 10:30 am. I'm really going to miss him in the morning. I go back mid-September. I was able to negotiate working from home two days a week but even then, I'm really dreading going back.
  • I'm going back part time, but my boss was so nice to say "take as long as you like." It's hard to find the motivation to pin down a date! Not only a date but also the days and hours I'll work.Ughhh, I don't want to drive in traffic again!  My commute takes me from one end of Seattle to the other- a total nightmare. I'm dreading that so much!

  • I'm also a teacher and going back the first week of September. I'm disappointed that after paying day care, I'll only take home 200 a week. I keep telling myself it's an investment.
  • I am a teacher as well and we start on the 26th.  I am crossing my fingers to get a doctor's note today so I can go back at the end of September.  I cringe about having someone start the year for me as well, but would prefer the time with my LO.  I have the time and it annoys me that I can't just take it without a note.  Very frustrating.

I am a teacher also. We started the last week of July. I'm taking off until October 14 he will be 3 months and one day. DH is a teacher as well and he started last week. This is his first full week with students.

I am a music teacher and will not have a sub. They just don't get music. I don't want somebody to mess up my kids while I'm out. LOL. People think it's all about singing, playing games, and having fun, and it is, but I do a lot more than that.

  • I am going back mid October since DS#2 is not yet 3 weeks old (12 weeks of leave). This is my second and it was hard with DS #1, but you do get used to it and it gets easier. Now my oldest LOVES going to "school" and has so much fun with his friends and teachers, he usually doesn't want to leave when we go to pick him up! I know that my new LO will do just as well there, and it helps already knowing the teachers pretty well, so I think it will be easier this second time. One thing that helped me get used to taking my oldest was to slowly transition him in during the first week-take your LO for a half day for the first few days (before you have to be back at work, if your daycare will allow it), and use the time to do something nice for yourself-go to the gym, get a pedicure, etc.

  • Going back at the end of Sept but part time now. The other days LO will be in daycare and I'm absolutely dreading leaving her!

I'm also a teacher, but I'm taking time off at the beginning of the school year. I think I've found a great long-term sub to cover my maternity leave, but I know what you mean about it being a pain to have someone else start the school year. I'm dreading going back to work (even though I love my job!) Good luck to you - let me know how it goes! BTW, what grade do you teach?

I teach third grade at a small charter school. If they could guarantee me a great sub it would be different, but our sub pool is super small. At least we have a week to get dropping the kids off at the sitters to get our routine down.

That's tough. Daycare is so expensive, we have been lucky to have a friend watch them for cheaper but still going to be expensive with three kids there this year and I don't make as much with being at a charter school.

  • I'm a teacher too and LO is 18 days tomorrow but I am starting back part time tomorrow. This just helps with my salary and insurance payments. I work at a great charter school but I have to go back. It's sad and I'm super overwhelmed at home today but also excited to start the school year. I love what I do.

  • I'm going back Sept 25th. 9 weeks 3 days off. My first 2 days back I will be traveling to a meeting in NC so I will be away 2 nights! I am sure I will be a wreck. Husband keeps reassuring me that everything will be fine. I can't think about it or I will go nuts.

  • I'm going back on sept. 4. He'll be 9.5 weeks. I decided to just go back after the Labor Day holiday but then he has a dr appointment on the 3rd so Wednesday the 4th it is. I'm just thankful I was able to take as much time as I have.

I am excited too, but wish I had gotten more accomplished planning wise over the summer, but what are you going to do, I was a little busy. ;) Glad you are excited, that is super early to go back, even part time. Good luck!

This for me. I decided to stay home this year. It will still be rough, money-wise, but I just couldn't see working all day and bringing home next to nothing. I'm going to miss school way more than I ever imagined. And I was at my school district for 10 years so it was super hard to leave.
  • I'm a part time fitness teacher-going back on 8/25 and I'm a full time elementary teacher. My district doesn't allow additional paid leave, only unpaid. So I have to go back.

  • Me!  I have 12 weeks off so I don't go back until October 15th.

It really wasn't horrible when I went back with DS1.  He was fully STTN (9pm-6am) at that point and I was craving adult interaction.  I missed him like crazy and cried when DH left with him that morning to go to the sitters but it was a pretty easy transition.

I am slightly worried about how we will deal with 2 to get ready every am and I will be nursing still every am before he goes to DC.

I can take up to 6 months off, but I think I'm taking 3. So middle of Oct. Already dreading it. I don't want to leave him.
  • My first day back was yesterday..... ;( but we both did better than I thought. She is 6 weeks today. I'm a director at a child care center. So she is in my center. I get to check on her or sometimes keep her with me sometimes. So I'm pretty lucky. Good luck to all of those dropping their babies off to go back to work. It's hard. But children incl babies do enjoy all of the interaction! And it's even easier when they start as babies.
  • I go back August 26th and dreading it. Luckily my mother in law is watching DS.

  • I'm going back oct 14th.... Maybe. I keep intentionally forgetting to call and check around for sitters, don't tell DH. It's too sad to think about. I just need like another 4 years or so then I'm sure I'll be ready. :)

  • I went back at 2 weeks pp. We own our own business so there was things that needed to be done that no one else could do. I can bring LO to work with me so that helps!
  • Going back to my 6th graders in October. My 6 weeks is on Thursday, but I'm using my sick days to get me out a little longer. Work days start for us tomorrow, and I'm worried to have someone in my classroom, but honestly more excited to have extra time with the LO.
  • I'm going back mid September. I went to the office today so people could meet baby and it made me a little sad. I have gone on a few interviews and if I get those jobs I'll start early September. D/c is going to be hard on me, but I know it's for the best.

I go back the second week in October. DD will be going to daycare with DS.

I'm most concerned about a morning routine. I commute into the city so I need to make sure I have plenty of time to feed baby, get ready, and get to the train. DH will get the kids to school.
  • I am a mobile veterinarian (equine and some small animal) and am easing back into it next week when DD goes back to preschool. DS will only be 7 weeks, and although I said 8-10 weeks off, I don't get any paid maternity leave, so if I don't work I don't make any money. While that does suck, I am an independent contractor, and I get to set my own schedule. So if I don't want my first appointment till 10am, then so be it. Some days I am super busy and work till 6 or 7, and some days are slow and I am home by 2, so it works out pretty good that I get to see a lot of my babies during the week. The being on call for emergencies does suck though, but luckily in our area there are 3 other vets that I share on call duties with. I did tell work, no on call until after Labor Day.

  • I'm going back after12 weeks which is Oct 14. Might need to put in a few hrs before that which might ease me back in. I'm part time and LO will be with my mom so I'm hoping I don't get too depressed about it when the time comes, but I know myself and am sure I will be blue anyway.

  • I'm a teacher and (hoping!) to stay home until the middle of October.  I'm approved for that time, but I teach special ed and they have yet to find someone who is willing to do my job... lol... hope they appreciate me when I get back :)  I HATE the idea of missing the beginning of the year, but I managed with DS#1 three years ago.  Sigh.

  • I took off 2 months so I go back 8/26. I am dreading it! I have been trying for the past month to find a part time sitter to help since I work from home and I am not having luck. I am getting stressed I will not find anyone.

  • I go back the end of September. I never thought I'd want to be a SAHM but I really don't want to leave her. The thought makes me miserable and I'm avoiding thinking about it. So sad

  • I go back Oct 1 when baby is 10 weeks. She will be at the same daycare with her older brothers, so I feel good because I know everyone there already. I'm worried about the logistics of getting 3 kids under 5, and 2 adults out the door in the morning, and fed and put to bed in the evening while preserving some shreds of sanity. But then again, if I really valued my sanity I wouldn't have decided to have 3 kids under 5.

  • I am going back October 24th. I was lucky enough to get 8 weeks paid leave from my company, as well as another six weeks at 2/3 pay from the state under the NJ Family Leave Act, so I am taking it. Our nanny has been around the entire time I have been on leave, so there won't really be any transition to worry about, which is nice. Corri starts preschool September 8th, so that transition will be done as well before I go back.

Truthfully though, I am not wired to be a SAHM and am already bored out of my mind, so I will be climbing the walls once summer ends and I have nothing to do...I am looking forward to getting back to work with adults all day, lol!

Oct 1 is also my return to work date, and this LO will be at big brother's daycare. I have one less kid than @ms.mittens, but I'm equally (or more) worried about how we'll get four bodies out the door in the morning!
