Misconception and straight ignorance!!

I am fuming!! Idk how many of you follow the chive but today they posted a video of a section 8 house totally trashed. The woman only paid 53 of 1053 a month for rent on a beautiful two story house.
It wasn't just the video that irked me it's the comment thread!! People are so rude and narrow minded. They assume "Well obviously all people in section 8 housing are just trash and don't deserve any help." I'm furious at the narrow mindedness of them. I would be so happy if I could get housing help. At this point I'm not 100% on where my baby and I will live. I am renting currently but have two roommates. They don't want to live with a child and I understand that completely. But this kind of trash talk about women/people in general on state assistance is deplorable!! Where is the justification in being so fucking rude to those that ask for help?!? And to that woman: Shame on you giving mothers every where a bad name if they too need help!!

    As you can guess most comments were from men who have never been moms or probably fallen on hard times.

    My mom is seriously mentally ill and unable to work or understand that she needs to be on disability. My brothers and I grew up in extreme poverty.

    I'm a sociology grad student and even people who study social problems tend to look down on poor people. I like to remind people who act like that around me that I grew up as one of "those people" and I'm a human being just like them.

    People should do less talking about others and more listening to them.

    Exactly. I'm not excusing this woman at all. What she did was terrible. But not everyone who is poor is like that. My mom was a single mom till I was 3 and she kept our place spotless. And I was well fed.
    It's not even a matter of listening its also a matter of stepping back and questioning why you are judging so harshly.

    I totally agree! I am not in section 9 housing, but I am on WIC, Food Stamps, and Cash assistance right now. It is not by choice. It is only because I had to leave my husband at 14 weeks pregnant and he took everything from me and destroyed my credit. So until it goes to court and I get all the money he took from me, I need to lean on the system. It is amazing the judgement people make, assuming that just because I am on state assistance I am too lazy to work, on drugs, and only popping out a baby so the state will support me. I have always been a very hard worker and I can't wait to get off state help and back on my own feet. I just wish people would think twice before they judge.

    The single mom stereo types make me so mad. Im not lazy, i didnt plan to be single or need state help.

    The ignorance of people who make such assumptions is astounding. However, it doesn't surprise me anymore. People, in general, are stupid, and most are too lazy to get to know the person the are judging or know the individual's circumstances.

    My own husband put me in the situation where I have to lean on state assistance and he calls me white trash all the time. Tells me I am no good and I deserve to be living on government handouts. I am a full time student working on my degree in psychology. I have never been on assistance before, but I know I needed it and I would rather ask for help for me and my kids than to starve to death.
