Strollers..

So I had originally planned on getting a travel system. But my friend gave me a really nice carseat, woo hoo! So now I'm trying to find a stroller.. My DH took me to dinner and babies r us last night to look and hopefully pick one out.. The best thing I had to say about any of them "well, I don't hate it.." They all suck! Too heavy, too bulky, stupid harness, ugly color, too damn expensive, just bad! ):

Recommend your stroller..

Re: Strollers..

  • Sorry don't have a stroller to recommend, but just a tip, you might want to make sure that the car seat and stroller are comparable so you can use them together.

  • We have the Baby Jogger City Select. It's not cheap, but it's wonderful! Glides smoothly, folds up easily, and has held up very nicely. We just plan on purchasing a second seat, as it can convert to a tandem double stroller.

There are less expensive options by Baby Jogger, too. I know the City Mini is very popular.

  • I posted a similar question and had tons and ribs of votes for the britax b agile. All of them had something wrong, but this was the best choice for me. I wish this one had a bigger basket and a cup holder. But the thing that sold me was how light it is and how compact. I can put it in the car with 1 hand and stool for groceries in the back. They are about $200 but I got mine on Craigslist for $100.

They also have an adapter for the carseat. However while LO is in the carseat I'll be using a snap and go.

  • We've registered for the Baby Jogger City Mini...one of the lightest and highest rated joggers/strollers there is and has car seat adapters for various brands.

  • I'm a STM, we had a travel system for DS1, then bought about 3 other types of strollers (jog, umbrella, etc.) because we could never find the perfect one.  For this one, we decided to sell all the strollers we had (kept the infant seat) and bought a Bob.  We wished we could have bought a Bob the first go-around.  And Bob is compatible with several different types of car seats.  I found our Bob on Amazon as an "open box deal" for much less than list price.  And it was in perfect condition when it arrived, I don't think it was ever even out of the box.

I registered for the City Select too. There was nothing else that I found that I liked that also had great reviews. Like PP said, it's not cheap, but I think it will be well worth it.

  • We bought a Bob jogger and the carseat adapter for our Chicco carseat. We live out in the country and wanted something we could use on our driveway for walks. I'm sure it will be a bit big when at the mall and such...but that's ok.

I got this one as my shower gift and I haven't used it with a baby yet but I love it.

My sister loves her Britax B-Agile as a second option.

FYI - you can't actually use a City Mini for running or jogging.

  • I'm a BOB fanatic. I run so that is mainly why I bought it. You can push it with 1 finger it isn't too bulky. It turns super easy. They are extemely sturdy. They last forever. They have a huge visor with a large window to see the child. My double has a weight limit of 100lbs and a single i think is 50 lbs. so you can use it for A LONG TIME. You can normally find a single one on craigslist for about $200. I just bought a double for $350 and it is worth every penny. If you buy a new one Britax just bought them out so they are equivilant to the quality of Britax but designed to be more active and outdoorsy.
  • If I could do it again, I would get a snap and go and a nice umbrella stroller. If you run or go on tons of walks, I would add in a running stroller. It sounds like a lot of strollers, but the ones that do multiple things, tend to do them all poorly. So think of how you would need the stroller the most and get it for that purpose.

We used the snap and go and it was wonderful when you use the carseat. We also have a cheap umbrella stroller for travel/car, a chicco liteway stroller (ok for normal use), and a hard-core running stroller.

We use the running stroller for walks/runs. It is great, it is a baby jogger that we got used of CL. It is a real running stroller, where the front wheel is locked. Jogging strollers are great as long as you don't want to take it anywhere, then they are huge.

My only regret is the chicco stroller, we should have gotten a really nice umbrella stroller instead, like the maclaren.

We are registered for this one too.  We picked it because it's lightweight and folds up easily and compactly.  My car is small so we needed something that was going to fit in my car and not make me want to run it over multiple times because it folds up hard!

We registered for this one as well, and also for the stroller frame for the carseat (not the whole travel system).

  • I scored a snap n go frame for my chicco carseat for $50 on clearance at target! I also have a city mini for when the baby outgrows the infant seat. I was going to just buy the attachment strap for the city mini and use the infant seat with that, but I couldn't beat the price on the snap n go!

I have a City Mini and although it's not technically a heavy duty jogging stroller, I've used it many times for light jogs through my neighborhood.

  • I don't plan on using a stroller for myself, I plan on babywearing Marlena as much as humanly possible. But I did register for a nice but inexpensive jogging stroller for DH who loves to run. I thought it'd be great bonding for them when she's a bit bigger.

I have a combi carseat so I had planned on getting an adapter if I can't find a combi stroller I like. Which so far I haven't..
  • We had registered for a baby jogger city elite when expecting DS1 and then stumbled across a city mini on the clearance rack at babies r us. It was such a great price we just couldn't pass it up - and SO glad we didn't - I still love my city mini!!!

  • Per the Baby Jogger company that's not the case - there's no "technically" about it when BJ says right on their website that it is not intended for jogging. BJ only makes 3 models which are actual jogging strollers: the FIT, the Summit X3 and the Pod.

Oh and tangentially related - for those who are considering running with your infants, just an FYI: it is not safe prior to roughly six months of age due to neck and spinal concerns.

Sorry, my post was unclear. I agree that the city mini is NOT a jogging stroller- either a heavy or light jogging stroller. I'm sure the wheels' circumference is too small for the company to classify it as such. But, I've taken this stroller on many light jogs on concrete paths and the ride was smooth for my LO. If I was very serious about jogging/running, I'd invest in a real jogging stroller, but for the occasional light jog, it's fine.
  • Do you have a particular use in mind?  If so get an appropriate stoller but we have a snap and go we used for airports that worked well and I baby wore everywhere else -- perhaps we are wierd, we didn't take the carseat anywhere other than house to car.  For $50-100 you can get a simple snap and go while you figure out what else you need (jogging vs umbrella once a little older/out of carseat age vs light weight stroller for recreation).

I think that's what I'm going to do. I'm not a runner, or jogger. I have a hand me down umbrella stroller but wanted something bigger for trips to the zoo and such. But I think a snap and go would be best to start. Also the only strollers I've found that I love are doubles. And by the time this baby is out of the infant seat I hope to be expecting number 2. So getting a double would make since at that point.

Baby Jogger's City Select and UppaBaby Vista can be converted from a single to an in-line double stroller. It's one of the biggest reasons we registered for the BJCS. :)

for DS1 we had a Cameleon for daily use, a bob for running, and a Maclaren umberella stroller once DS got older and needed a lightweight stroller. when we found out we were having another we needed to look at double strollers and got a Donkey which can be used for one or two. Wish they had the Donkey when DS1 was born and we would've just gone this route. There is no perfect stroller that will meet all your needs. We are happy with each stroller though and love them all.

  • With DD1 we avoided a stroller all together for the first year. I was big on baby wearing, and I lugged the carrier around if I couldn't wear her. Then I got a BOB and it is awesome.

I plan on wearing DD2 also and then upgrading to a double BOB once I can (and probably selling my first).

We got the BOB, our second choice would have been city select.
  • Phil and teds smart stroller with peanut bassinet. Light, very small and good for city living. Love the design.
