Natural birth in lower Alabama

Anyone know any natural birth friendly doctors or midwives in lower Alabama. I'm in Mobile but currently using a doctor in Fairhope. I had a discussion with her at my last visit and it became clear that she is all about interventions, which is not what I want for this birth. TIA!

    Dr. Mary Wells
She has great bedside manner and at my first visit sounded natural birth friendly but when I asked more in depth questions at my last visit she wasn't so supportive. I've heard great things about Thomas Hospital so I'm a bit disappointed. I have an appt with CNM Cynthia Messer at USA in a few weeks to possibly switch.

  • I'm in the same boat in that area. There's a CMW in Foley but that may be too far if you live in Mobile. Let me know how it goes!!! I'm still TTC so I've got time! I delivered my first at Children and Women's and I DO NOT recommend them. AT ALL!!
  • I've switched to CNM Cynthia Messer. My consultation went great with her! She also said that the practice that she is a part of is hiring two new CNM's within the next 2 months. She is absolutely natural childbirth friendly (she had two births that way). She said that she doesn't see eye to eye with the residents that work at USA but that they respect each other. As long as I have an advocate caring for me I feel a lot better. What were your bad experiences at Women and Children's? I will be delivering there now since I've switched to CNM Messer.

I am in Spanish Fort and I am planning on using Cynthia Messer. Can't wait to meet her and very excited to hear that the practice is hiring more CNM. Any idea if USAC&W has water tubs in their rooms?

There is one room with a tub and it can be used for labor but not delivery.

  • @IforShort I'm glad to know that someone else is using Cynthia. My husband and I had our first meeting with her yesterday and really enjoyed meeting with her. I recently watched the Business of Being Born and I'm hoping that I will be able to embrace the natural birth with the staff at Children's and Women's.
