Baby Shower Opinion?

Hello Everyone! I recently found out I am pregnant & I am due April 7th. We are SUPER excited and can't wait to plan everything for our new baby! I was wondering when all of you are planning to have your baby shower? I want to wait enough time after the holiday, but not too close to my due-date so I still have energy. Any opinions? Thanks! :-)

I doubt anyone will plan one this time, since it is baby #3. But typically baby showers are a couple months before due date. I would say January or February is feasibly a pretty good amount of time for one. With DS my showers were 1 and 2 months before my EDD.

(Side note: you do know it's common courtesy for someone else to plan your shower?)

Well, first you wait for someone to offer to host a shower for you, and then it would depend on their schedule. I wouldn't want a shower any earlier than maybe 30 weeks (I'd be terrified of jinxing it).

As it stands, I live in a different country from my entire family and most of our friends, and showers aren't really done here, so I will most likely not be having one. My mom may try to throw me one if we go home for Christmas, but I'll be about 24-25 weeks then, and I think that's still way too early.

I had three showers. We have divorces and big families so that how our families planned it all out. I would have rather had one big one but at the same time it was nice having smaller ones so I could spend more time with everyone.

Anyways, to answer your question, my furthest shower was 2 months before I was due and my closest was 3 weeks before I was due. I had no say or planning in the showers, I just showed up and enjoyed myself. The last one was hard to bend over to get the gifts but I had a bunch of little kids help me open the gifts, it was actually super cute (and convenient).

I will not be having a shower as this is our second LO (and, while you'll find differing opinions on this topic, I'm firmly in the Showers for Subsequent Babies are Tacky camp for about 90% of all circumstances) .

With my first, I had a shower in Nov for my Feb baby -- a little early, but we felt like Jan would be cutting it close and everyone is so busy in Dec. Without major holidays to contend with, I think 2 months prior to your EDD is optimal, but of course it really depends on the hostesses' preferences and schedules.

My daughter was an April baby and we had our shower in late February. I wanted enough time to put together and wash everything before she arrived. And thank you cards needed to be sent out before she arrived

i think i was 32=33 weeks at my baby shower. it seemed like a good time. it was early march, i believe, and i delivered in late april.

You shouldn't be planning your own shower. If someone offers, it's going to have to be at a time when it's convenient for everyone, starting from around 30ish weeks.

I'm throwing my SILs baby shower in September and she's due middle of October.

What the other ladies said. You don't plan you own shower, so you don't have to worry about when to have it. If someone offers, right around the beginning-middle of 3rd tri is a good time. I promise even at 40 weeks you'd still have enough energy to open gifts, eat cake and write thank you notes.

I would never plan my own baby shower - I actually think it would be rude to do so. I also don't agree with having a shower for a second child if the older child is under the age of 4. That being said, I am a hypocrite, because we actually NEED a baby shower. My 6-year-old son's father burned all of the baby stuff when we moved out of his house 4 years ago. I'm now married, and my husband and I are starting fresh for this baby. When my husband and I were expecting Henrietta, I asked my mom if she was going to try to plan a shower for us and she said no. She refuses to host a shower for us, even though this is our first take-home baby together, because I have my older son from a previous relationship and "it's tacky to have showers for second babies" (even though she had 3 showers when she was pregnant with me, and my half-brother was 7 years old...but who's checking facts anyway?).

We're doing a "backyard Baby-Q bash" in October. Ill be 16 weeks- my 2 best friends are hosting it and it will be a gift card shower with just our closest friends- so about 15 people. I thought it was a great idea! Backyard, in the fall, BBQ, burlap, mason jar candles, corn hole for the guys.... And it stocks us up on gift cards for when we know the gender!! Then we'll have the traditional stuffy baby shower in February with family and co workers.

My mom is a teacher and lives in another state. I am hopping to have my shower during her spring break in early March so she can come and spend time.

In our family we celebrate EVERY baby regardless if its the 10th one or not. We don't do it for the gifts we do it to welcome the baby and thank God he/she will be joining us soon. It's a new life and he or she should be celebrated.

Anyways, we did mine when I was around 35 weeks pregnant....I think...I was huge LOL. But honestly that's what people like to see lol...HOWEVER I was SO tired at the end of the day

I had a traditional shower with my oldest, but with my second we still had a get together but it was just immediate family. We went to a restaurant for dinner and we got a couple gifts and had a cake. It was nice to do *something* for the second baby but wasn't over done at all.

I was given 3 showers, one was a month before I was due, and the other two were after my daughter was born. The hostesses all chose the where & when, I was just required to show up.

I think I was about 34 or 35 weeks with my first baby. It's nice to have some time to wash clothes & sort things out before baby comes along.

My best friends have already started talking ideas for a huge baby shower!! We are a blended family and my DD is the youngest and she's 10. Then his kids are 11 and 13. We are expecting twins and will definitely need a baby shower!! These will be our first babies together and we are looking forward to a baby shower.
